An apparatus () for removing bone material comprises a distal cutting instrument () and a proximal cutting instrument (). The distal cutting instrument has at least one first cutting edge (), a shoulder (), and a shaft portion (). The shaft portion () has an anti-rotation feature. The at least one first cutting edge () removes bone material when moved in a first direction. The proximal cutting instrument () is removably attached to the shaft portion (). The proximal cutting instrument () has a first end portion () and a second end portion (). The second end portion () contacts the shoulder () of the distal reamer () when the proximal reamer is mounted to the shaft portion (). The proximal reamer () has at least one second cutting edge () and an aperture. The aperture is adapted to receive the anti-rotation feature of the shaft portion () of the distal reamer (). The at least one second cutting edge () removes bone material when moved in a second direction.

Methods, systems and devices for preventing prosthetic articulating surfaces from separating from each other. A containment system according to one embodiment seeks to prevent an implant stem head from dislocating from a prosthetic component while providing an increased range of motion over conventional constrained components. In one embodiment, an implant structural member includes a cavity and an opening having a lip, including a web along a portion of the lip. An implant stem head has a cooperating surface that corresponds with the web, so that when the cooperating surface of the implant stem head is aligned with the web, the head may be inserted into the implant structural member. The implant stem head is then rotated and the femoral stem component attached, thereby preventing dislocation of the head.

Containment system for constraining a prosthetic component

Bipolar prostheses which include various structures and other techniques for optimizing material wear and mechanical strength properties. Such prostheses feature, for example, improved resistance to polyethylene wear while also reducing potential for dislocation of the femoral stem from the prosthesis. Such techniques and structures include varying wear resistance and mechanical strength treatment in various components of the prostheses or portions of those components as desired to improve, accentuate or optimize wear performance and dislocation reduction, locking ring structural features, structures for retaining locking rings in the bipolar prosthesis shell, and structures for limiting or reducing movement or rotation of locking rings and liners in bipolar prosthesis shells.

Hip prostheses

An intramedullary implant for mounting within an intramedullary canal of a bone is disclosed. The intramedullary implant includes a lower stem portion, an upper stem portion, and a modular sleeve body. The modular sleeve body is connected to one of the lower stem portion or the upper stem portion. The sleeve body includes an inner portion that covers at least a segment of the upper stem portion and has one or more longitudinally extending bone engagement members for engagement with the bone.

The implant includes a first component adapted for assembly with a second component such that a mating surface of the first component is in close proximity with a mating surface of the second component. At least one gas conduit associated with the mating surface of the first component facilitates a sterilizing gas to penetrate into and dissipate from the interface defined by the mating surfaces.

Method of sterilizing an orthopaedic implant

Embodiments of the present invention provide a milling system and method that provides a precise triangular cut in a patient's proximal femur. The system allows the surgeon to mill in a single direction, that is, the drill is in the same or similar longitudinal place as the handle of the milling system, preventing the surgeon from having to enter the patient's leg at two different angles. The present invention also provides a milling system that can be pre-assembled (e.g., on the back table by a nurse while the surgeon is preparing the site), which enables the milling to take place in one step.
