An exercise device for the occupant of a wheelchair acting as a treadmill which may be used for cardiac stress testing, cardiac or stroke rehabilitation, fitness training, aerobic training or educational/physical games, with the device including a generally inclined ramp having parallel sides, a forward entrance portion, a movable dolly mounted on rails on the sides of the ramp, the dolly having a pair of laterally movable caster capture plates with openings to receive the front casters of a wheelchair and angular rods cooperating with the wheelchair drive wheels acting to adjust the lateral spacing of said plates, locking means for the dolly to retain it in its forward position, separate locking means for locking the dolly in its rearward position when a wheelchair has been moved onto the ramp into operative position, a pair of enlarged openings adjacent the rear edge of the ramp, and a pair of longitudinally movable rollers beneath the ramp and movable between a rear retracted position allowing the wheelchair drive wheels to be partially received in the openings and a forward position under the drive wheels to engage and lift the drive wheels so that the user can manually rotate the wheelchair drive wheels to rotate the rollers and provide signals to a control apparatus for the desired type of training, testing or rehabilitation.

A reflux indicating device for a urine collection bag which has a chamber for collecting urine from a patient. A receiving conduit is in communication with the drain tube on a catheter to empty urine into the chamber. An annular channel is secured into the upper distal most end of the receiving conduit. If the bag is laid on one of its sides, urine will get trapped in the channel and alert medical personnel of possible retrograde contamination of the drain tube and catheter by bacteria contained within any urine already in the chamber.

A multiple sample valve assembly for a urine collection system with a valve for taking small urine samples in a safe manner. The valve also has a valve for taking large urine samples while having a frangible portion for indicating that the large sampling valve was used, so as to alert medical personnel to the possibility of contamination or infection if proper procedures are not undertaken. The element for indicating use comprises frangible panels or bands which may be disturbed by opening the valve.

A liquid drainage system comprising, a receptacle having a chamber to receive and collect the liquid. The system has a drip chamber having a vent with a bacteria filter covering the vent, and an annular wall having a lower edge defining a valve seat, with the seat being disposed at an acute angle relative to the horizontal when the receptacle is in an upright position. The system has an anti-reflux valve comprising a sheet of flexible material extending across the drip chamber such that the sheet is sufficiently large to engage against the seat peripherally around the drip chamber. The system has a device for retaining an upper portion of the valve against an upper portion of the seat, such that a lower portion of the valve flexes away from the seat when the receptacle is placed in an upright position, and the lower portion of the valve flexes against the seat when the receptacle is disposed in a horizontal position.

A cystometry system to measure the pressure-volume relationship in the bladder of a patient from a source of fluid comprising, a catheter having an elongated shaft defining an infusion lumen communicating with an infusion opening adjacent a distal end of the shaft, and a pressure lumen communicating with a pressure opening adjacent the distal end of the shaft. The system has a device for supplying a selected volume of fluid from the source to the bladder through the infusion lumen of the catheter, and a device for measuring the bladder pressure through the catheter pressure lumen.

Cystometry system

A midstream sampling device comprising, a housing having a chamber, a distal outer mouth defining an outer port, an inner mouth in the chamber defining an inner port, and an outlet opening. The housing has a first cavity communicating between the inner port and the outlet opening, and a second cavity at least partially below the inner mouth and communicating with the outer port. The housing has an elongated depending post having a channel, and an upper aperture communicating with at least one of the cavities. The device also has a receptacle having a chamber communicating with the outlet opening.

Midstream sampling device

A device for measuring a discharge of urine comprising, a receiving member having an inlet port to receive the discharge, and a receptacle having a chamber to receive the discharge from the receiving member, and means for measuring a dynamic characteristic of the discharge. The device has a container attached to the receptacle to receive the discharge passing from the receptacle.

A bladder hemostatic catheter comprising, an elongated shaft having a lumen extending along the shaft, a tip at the distal end of the shaft, and an opening adjacent the distal end of the shaft communicating between the lumen and the outside of the shaft. The catheter has an inflatable balloon of elastic material covering a distal end section of the shaft, with the balloon having a proximal portion secured circumferentially around the shaft, and with the balloon defining a cavity intermediate the balloon and the shaft communicating with the opening. The balloon is capable of receiving 600 to 1000 cubic centimeters of fluid and assuming a generally spherical shape in an inflated state of the balloon. The catheter has valve means to permit passage of fluid from a source of fluid to the lumen while preventing passage of fluid from the lumen during inflation of the balloon.

Bladder hemostatic catheter

A tissue pressure measuring device comprising, a hollow needle and a conduit communicating with the needle at a distal end thereof, with the conduit having a lumen and including a transparent portion having a reference marking. The device has a syringe having a plunger, an outer wall defining a chamber, a barrel received in the chamber and defining a cavity to slidably receive the plunger in sealing engagement with an inner surface of the barrel and permit movement of the plunger between inner and outer positions of the plunger relative to the barrel. The chamber and cavity have a combined volume substantially greater than the volume of the cavity, and the plunger has reference indicia disposed along the plunger to determine the position of the plunger relative to a reference position on the syringe. The device has a valve assembly communicating with the conduit lumen and syringe chamber, with the valve assembly selectively establishing communication between the lumen and chamber, and establishing communication between the chamber and the atmosphere while closing the lumen from the chamber.

Tissue pressure measuring device

A catheterization device comprising, a catheter having an elongated shaft defining a drainage lumen, a drainage eye adjacent a distal end of the shaft, and a proximal end. The device has a receptacle having a collection chamber, and a valve assembly communicating with the receptacle chamber and having a channel to receive the proximal end of the catheter. The valve assembly is movable between a first open position establishing communication between the receptacle chamber and the catheter lumen while the catheter is received in the channel, and a second closed position with the receptacle chamber closed from the channel. The valve assembly automatically substantially ejects the catheter from the channel responsive to movement of the valve assembly from the first to second position.
