A containment system comprises at least one passage obstructer extending from a housing inlet cover through a diffuser passage and into a housing back cover. The passage obstructer includes a fastener portion, such as a bolt, and an obstructing portion extending from and integral to a shaft of the fastener portion. The diameter of the obstructing portion is less than the diameter of the shaft, allowing the obstructing portion to bend upon impact with a burst impeller fragment.

A permanent magnet rotor for an electric motor may include a rotor assembly that will hold the magnets in place. A pair of rings is added to the sleeve to tightly engage and press against the end plates and the magnets. This configuration provides additional securement against axial and radially shifting of the magnets.

A two-spool air cycle machine includes a high pressure cooling turbine section; a low pressure cooling turbine section; and first and second shafts that are concentrically arranged and that are independently rotatable with respect to one another. A turbine wheel of the high pressure turbine section is secured to the first shaft, and a turbine wheel of the second turbine section is secured to the second shaft. Such an air cycle machine may be used a variety of different aircraft environmental control systems.

A high aspect ratio, low solidity fan blade of an axial flow air cycle machine has a local tip center of gravity axis that has been shifted ahead of an elastic axis. The center of gravity axis can be shifted by clipping the tip of the blade at the trailing edge, by undercutting a rear portion of the pressure surface, or by sweeping forward leading and trailing edges of the blade by about five degrees (without clipping or undercutting the blade).

A vibration damped turbo-machine blade includes a shot peened metallic substrate which provides a shape for the blade. Carried on the metallic substrate and bonded to an outer surface of this substrate is a singular ceramic coating of a damping material. The substrate may be made of forged titanium, and the coating may be made of a ceramic material including cobalt at a weight percentage of from about 13% to about 21%, with the balance of the ceramic material being substantially all tungsten carbide.
