Techniques for error handling by a servomechanism are disclosed. The servomechanism determines, based on a first set of values assigned to servomechanism variables, electrical signals for controlling a component during a particular time interval, and applies the electrical signals to move the component. Subsequently, the servomechanism measures values for attributes associated with the component. Based on the measured attribute values, the servomechanism computes a second set of values for the servomechanism variables. Responsive to determining that the measured attribute values are erroneous, the servomechanism refrains from modifying the electrical signals based on the second set of values for the servomechanism variables.

Servomechanism error handling

Systems and methods are described for automatic calibration of robotic mechanism functions according to accurate decoding and locating of target features using spot scanning. For example, a robotic mechanism in a storage library has one or more integrated scanners that can acquire contrast and/or topographic scan data from a scan window that represents a profile of the scan window expected to have one or more target feature sets. The scan data can be decoded according to predefined target masks (e.g., target type-specific fit tables) at a number of decode threshold levels to estimate target feature values, which can be used to converge on (or otherwise generate) a purported target definition with purported feature values. The purported target definition can be used to facilitate various functions, such as automatic calibration of robotic mechanism positioning and object identification.

Target decoding and robot positioning in a storage library

Embodiments include systems and methods for detecting logical presence and location of modules, detecting physical presence and location of modules, and mapping the logical and physical locations together for use by the storage library. For example, when an expansion module is installed, it is connected to a network and it reports its logical presence and logical network location to a base controller in the base module. A robotic mechanism is used to trigger one or more presence sensors to detect physical presence and location of the installed expansion module. The base controller or another component generates and stores a mapping between the logical location and the physical location. The storage library can use the mapping to translate between logical and physical functionality.

A bracket assembly to suspend objects comprising a bracket and a cap assembly. The bracket has a mounting plate that comprises a front surface and a rear surface. The bracket also has a U-shaped bracket having first and second arms that perpendicularly extend from the front surface. The U-shaped bracket defines first and second interior side edges and an interior rear edge. The cap assembly works in combination with a container. The cap assembly comprises a cap head, a bottom edge, and a ring. The ring has a first outside diameter that is larger than a distance between said first and second interior side edges to suspend the cap assembly in combination with the container from the bracket.

A bracket assembly to suspend objects, having a bracket and a suspending tab assembly for organizing objects in a suspended manner. The bracket comprises a rear and front wall joined at a top edge and a bottom edge. An interior seam defines the interior area where the rear wall and the front wall join. The front wall comprises at least one aperture having a longitudinal channel defined by edges. The suspending tab assembly comprises a generally elongated torso having a first tab at its distal end. The first tab is shaped to snugly fit within the at least one aperture. Opposite the first tab, the torso has a second tab. The second tab has adhesive means. A peel-off sticker initially covers the second tab to prevent unwanted matter from sticking to the adhesive means. The rear face of the rear wall also has adhesive means and also has a peel-off sticker.

An automated media library gathers information about each readable cartridge label using a camera. From the label information, the orientation of the cartridge may be determined. For each cartridge with an unreadable label or no label, the media library attempts a get/put operation. If the get/put operation fails, the cartridge is marked as incorrectly oriented. Alternatively, the tape library may attempt a get/put operation on all removable media cartridges. A similar process is performed when a cartridge access port is closed and the cartridge access port is marked inaccessible to the host when an incorrectly oriented cartridge is detected.

Method, apparatus, and program for determining correct cartridge orientation in an automated tape library

A system and method of adaptively engaging cartridges stored in an automated cartridge library are provided. Upon receiving a request to extend a reach mechanism of a robot arm to engage a cartridge stored in a selected cell, a library controller initiates a move profile to extend the reach mechanism from a starting position toward the cartridge. The move profile comprises a set of commanded positions and corresponding commanded velocities. A motor controller in communication with the library controller compares a sensed position of the reach mechanism, provided by a position feedback sensor associated with a reach motor, with the commanded position to determine a position error. The motor controller maintains the move profile until the position error exceeds an error threshold, indicating engagement of the cartridge by the reach mechanism. The move profile is then terminated to obtain a final position of the reach mechanism, where the final position reflects a specific depth of the selected cell from the robot arm.

An improved floatable toothpick assembly which includes a pointed lower end to piercingly connect to a piece of garnish, such as an olive or a cherry, and a buoyant float about the toothpick and adjacent the upper end zone of the toothpick so as to float a piece of garnish in a beverage which can be retrieved by grasping the upper end zone of the toothpick.
