The present invention relates to improved drag reduction agents which are copolymers of an alpha olefin and a vinyl alkylenecarboxylic ester.

Drag reduction agent for hydrocarbon liquid

This invention relates to an improved process for preparing linear olefins and waxes, particularly linear olefin waxes. More particularly, this invention relates to an improved process for polymerizing ethylene to obtain linear olefins and waxes having a number average molecular weight (M.sub.n) ranging from about 500 to 5000. The process can be generally described as a two-stage process wherein the first stage is an ethylene oligomerization followed by a second stage metathesis. Still more particularly, this invention relates to an improved process for polymerizing ethylene to obtain a product comprising at least 70 weight percent linear olefin waxes.

Two stage olefin wax process

A process for preparing linear alpha olefins and waxes having a total product M.sub.n in the range 200 to 700 which includes polymerizing an ethylene-containing gas in the presence of the reaction product of a zirconium halide with R.sub.2 Zn, wherein R is an alkyl group having about 1 to about 20 carbon atoms, in the presence of a diluent at a temperature of about 50.degree. to 200.degree. C. and an ethylene pressure above about 3.5 MPa, wherein the M.sub.n of said reaction product is controlled by the molar ratio of said R.sub.2 Zn/ZrCl.sub.4, said molar ratio being less than about 1.

Preparation of linear olefin products

A new catalyst system for alphaolefin type polymerizations, includes at least one hindered alkyl metal amide compound having the formula R'.sub.2 YNR.sub.2 in combination with a Group IVB-VIII transition metal compound on a support and at least one Lewis base wherein R is selected from the group consisting of C.sub.4 to C.sub.20 bulky alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, aryl and substituted aryl groups or R.sub.2 N is a hindered cyclic amide group; R' is selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 to C.sub.20 primary alkyl, secondary alkyl, tertiary alkyl, neopentyl alkyl, branched alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl groups, and Y is selected from the group consisting of aluminum, gallium or indium. The catalyst system provides polymers having increased isotactic stereoregularity as well as lower catalyst residue.
