An apparatus and method for drawing small milling debris into a combination milling and debris retrieval tool, during the performance of the milling operation. A milling tool has a fluid intake port near its lower end, where debris-laden fluid is drawn into the milling tool and subsequently into a separator section. The separator section has a debris deflection tube and a screen for separating the debris from the fluid. Fluid is drawn into the tool by either a set of eductor nozzles or a downhole motor and pump.

Apparatus for removal of milling debris

A cutting tool (22) includes a plurality of pivoted blades (36) for swinging outwardly to an expanded radial position for first cutting the walls of multiple casing strings (10, 11), and then removing a predetermined length of the casing strings (10, 11) simultaneously in a cutting action. Pivoted blades (36) have cutting elements (66) of a similar size and shape positioned about upper, lower, and outer sides (60, 62, 64) of the blades (36). The lower sides (62) of the blades (36) engage the upper annular cut ends of the casing strings (10, 11) in a cutting action without tripping or removal from the bore hole.

Milling tool and method for milling multiple casing strings

A cutting tool (20) has a tool body (26) positioned within a metal casing (12) for reaming the inner peripheral surface of the casing (12) to a uniform smooth inner diameter. Tool body (26) has a lower end body portion (28), a generally cylindrical intermediate body portion (30), and a reduced diameter upper end body portion (22) connected to intermediate body portion (26) by a sloping shoulder (24). Blades (46, 48) have a single column of cutting elements (50) secured thereto in end to end relation to define an outwardly sloping lower column section (51A) along lower end body section (28), a vertical intermediate column section (51B) along intermediate body portion (30) and an inwardly sloping upper column section (51C) along sloping shoulder (34).
