Embodiments of the present invention provide a multi-fan cooling system in which redundancy in airflow across a plurality of electrical boards is maintained. This redundancy is provided by having an ability to at least partially divert airflow from a functioning fan to an electrical board for which its corresponding fan has failed. According to various embodiments of the present invention, the multi-fan cooling system comprises two fans located proximate to each other. An airflow plenum couples and distributes air from the two fans across a plurality of electrical boards. In certain embodiments, the plenum comprises stacked outlets that distribute airflow from the two fans across the plurality of electrical boards. During normal operation, this airflow is approximately evenly distributed across the electrical boards. However, if one of the fans fails, the plenum causes air from the single operating fan to still be distributed across the plurality of electrical boards. In one embodiment of the invention, the plenum includes a flap that covers an opening for the failed fan to prevent recirculation of airflow back into the failed fan.

An electromagnetic interference (EMI) gasket for an electronic module comprises a valley feature formed on one side of an EMI gasket and a crown feature formed on the other side of the EMI gasket in order to complement the valley. One or more EMI gaskets are used to construct a shield across the opening of a module cage or rack. Each gasket forms a link in a series of modules, in order to complete a seal across the opening in the cage. A perpendicular pressure forces the module gaskets to center and align evenly as the crown and valley of the opposite features nest together. The modules can be then pressed together and the overlap of the crown and valley acts to center the alignment and create a pressure for satisfactory EMI grounding and the reduction of EMI leakage.

Self-aligning electromagnetic interference gaskets for customer removable modules

A method and system for controlling electronic component configuration. The system includes a guard including an aperture and a plate including an aperture are adjustably connected. The guard and the plate each include a pin connected thereto. The system is capable of adjusting configurations to obtain an open configuration where at least a portion of the guard and plate apertures align and a blocked configuration where the plate and the guard apertures fail to permit access. Depending on an introduced component characteristic the component's physical keying structure may be received or prevented depending on the implementation. Additionally the present invention permits retrofitting a component with a correct characteristic but lacking a keying structure by disposing plate/guard pins outside the footprint of an introduced electronic component.

A self-sealing apparatus for containing electrical energy associated with electrical components. The apparatus includes one or more removable devices maintained by a housing. Each of the removable devices contains electrical components therein and is separated from at least one other removable device by a clearance gap formed therebetween. A self-sealing barrier can be formed from the clearance gap, wherein the clearance gap surrounds the removable device in order to contain electrical energy associated with the electrical components when the electrical components are maintained within the removable device or extracted or inserted from or into the removable device.

A system is provided for channeling high frequency signals through sheet metal containment within an electronic device. In exemplary embodiments of the invention, an electronic device employing the system includes a midplane circuit board. One or more interface modules may be coupled to the midplane circuit board, for example, for providing a high frequency interconnect with other devices such as Fiber Channel or the like. A midplane chassis shield is disposed within the device's housing adjacent to the midplane circuit board so that the interface modules interconnect with the midplane circuit board through apertures formed in the shield wherein the midplane circuit board, midplane chassis shield and interface module cooperate for providing a low impedance tunnel for channeling high frequency signals to ground.

The present invention is directed to a system for providing a removable access panel for utilization with electronic devices. The panel of the present invention is connected to the frame of an electronic device through the use of a pocket hinge which allows a curved extension on the cover to engage a corresponding curved surface included in the pocket. Utilization of the present invention allows for the electronic device to maintain its overall provide while providing a hinge system allowing for ease of access and removable functionality.

The battery pack in turn comprises a base and a cover which are slidable relative to each other to accommodate for the thickness of the battery pack when received within the container tray. A module is also provided and includes an interfacing device to allow the battery pack to be coupled to the module when the container tray is inserted into the module.
