An example barrier can be switchable between an at least partially collapsed state and at least partially expanded state (e.g., a deployed state). For example, the barrier can be formed from a continuous sheet and a plurality of rigid sections (e.g., rigid panels) attached or incorporated into the continuous sheet. The barrier can also include a plurality of hinges, such as hinge lines, between the panels that are formed from the continuous sheet. The hinges enable the barrier to be rigid foldable (e.g., the hinges can fold and unfold while the rigid sections remain stiff and rigid) between the expanded and collapsed states.

Deployable origami-inspired barriers

An example barrier can be switchable between an at least partially collapsed state and at least partially expanded state (e.g., a deployed state). For example, the barrier can be formed from a sheet and a plurality of rigid sections (e.g., rigid panels) attached or incorporated into the sheet. The barrier can also include a plurality of hinges, such as hinge lines, between the panels that are formed from the sheet. The hinges enable the barrier to be rigid foldable (e.g., the hinges can fold and unfold while the rigid sections remain stiff and rigid) between the expanded and collapsed states.

Described herein are implantable ports including a housing with a fluid receptacle, a port stem in fluid communication with the fluid receptacle, and a septum covering the fluid receptacle. The ports may be configured to reduce the priming volume by including a plurality of fluid-locked chambers and/or one or more base mats. The ports may also include a hydrophobic coating on one or more surfaces thereof.

Fast clear port

A surgical retractor device for retaining and/or moving internal organs during minimally invasive or laparoscopic surgery is provided. The surgical retractor can be a single continuous structure that includes a shaft. The shaft can branch into a first elongate finger with a first distal end opposite the shaft and a second elongate finger with a second distal end opposite the shaft. The retractor can further include a resilient lattice structure disposed between the first elongate finger and the second elongate finger. The retractor can have an expanded configuration and a collapsed configuration based on relative distance between the first distal end and the second distal end. When the retractor is in the collapsed configuration, spring force energy can be stored in the resilient lattice structure.

Surgical retractor

Surgical forceps for gripping internal organs during minimally invasive surgery are provided. The surgical forceps can be a sanitizable sheet in a folded configuration that includes a first elongate region which transitions to a resilient hinge which transitions to a second elongate region, all of which are formed of the same sheet. The first elongate region can further include a first grasper end opposite the resilient hinge and the second elongate region can include a second grasper end opposite the resilient hinge. The resilient hinge can apply a spring force to the first elongate region and the second elongate region that biases the forceps in an open configuration where the first grasper end and the second grasper end are distal from each other. When an external force is applied against the resilient hinge, the first grasper end can close against the second grasper end.

Surgical forceps

A user-selectable force conversion apparatus includes a first and a second connecting member that are pivotally connected to each other between a sliding member and a fixed member. The apparatus also includes a leaf spring holder for removably retaining one or more leaf springs and loading the second connecting member with a substantially linear force response of the leaf springs. A user may change the combination of leaf springs and/or vary a length ratio for the first and second connecting members and thereby change the force response of the apparatus. Movement of the sliding member by the mechanical input may convert the substantially linear force response of the leaf springs to a user-selected force response for the mechanical input. A corresponding method is also disclosed.

User-selectable force conversion apparatus and method

An apparatus and system are disclosed for a double gimbal stabilization platform. The apparatus, in one embodiment, includes a base and a first pivot joint connected to the base. The apparatus also includes a bent gimbal structure connected to the first pivot joint. The first pivot joint may rotate the bent gimbal structure about a first axis of rotation. The apparatus includes a second pivot joint connected to the bent gimbal structure. The apparatus includes a platform connected to the second pivot joint. The second pivot joint may rotate the platform around a second axis of rotation and the second axis of rotation may be orthogonal to the first axis of rotation. Furthermore, a center of mass for a combination of the bent gimbal structure and the platform may be between the base and the first axis of rotation.
