An improved amphibious shoe () with a swim fin structure which extends for swimming and folds for walking. The amphibious shoe has, in one embodiment, an elastic connection member (A,B) movably connecting the shoe portion () of the shoe to the fin portion () of the shoe. The elastic connection member maintains the relative positions of the shoe portion and fin portion in a swimming mode and a walking mode. In another embodiment, the shoe portion has a female recess (A,B) for insertion of a corresponding male extension portion (A,B) in the fin portion. Another embodiment includes a locking member (B,B) and a locking plate (B), wherein the locking plate defines a keyhole slot having a wide portion and a narrow portion, permitting conversion between walking mode and swimming mode when a lateral force is applied.

Amphibious shoe

An intramedullary device facilitates fixation after installing in a bone cavity by drilling a pilot opening from the interior of the device through the bone cortical to the exterior. The intramedullary device is equipped with an internal baffle system which is a stationary and can remain a permanent fixed element of the rod for unimpeded steering of a cutting tool from the interior of the device through the bone cortical to the bone exterior. The interior baffle may consist of a laterally inclined chute allowing a bone boring tool on an elongated power transmission cable to be guidedly advanced downwardly to the interior of the device to a pin opening for cutting the bone cortical from the inside and forming the all important initial pilot opening in the bone. The pilot opening can then be utilized to form a continuous channel by introducing a drill bit from the outside of the bone through the two predrilled openings in the device and then cutting through the opposite bone cortical. A pin is inserted to complete the fixation of the intramedullary device to the bone. Additional fixation pins may thereafter be installed as required. The improved system facilitates the otherwise difficult process of fixation of an intramedullary device, thereby shortening operating and anesthesia times, and decreasing the need for intraoperative x-rays.

System for intramedullary fixation of long bone fractures

An amphibious shoe-like structure for swimming and walking having a shoe-like structure for receiving a foot and a fin structure that provides a fin blade surface that expands in the swimming mode and collapses in the walking mode to rest adjacent to the wearer's instep. The fin structure comprises a plurality of fin arms pivotally connected to the shoe-like structure for rotating the fin arms outwardly in the swimming mode position and for rotating the fin arms inwardly towards the instep of the wearer for a walking mode position. The fin arms diverge relative to one another when rotating outwardly and converge towards one another when rotating inwardly to rest adjacent to the wearer's instep. The fin structure further comprises a flexible web member that engages with the fins arms and is of the configuration and size to accomodate the area generated by the expanding and diverging side fin arms. The convertible amphibious structure further provides for a lock to lock the fin structure in the extended swimming mode position and for unlocking when converting into the walking mode position.

Convertible amphibious shoes for swimming and walking

Amphibious shoes which may be used as walking shoes with easy convertibility to swim fins. The amphibious shoes of the present invention comprise a shoe-like structure and a one-piece continuous sole-fin structure affixed to the shoe-like structure. The one-piece continuous sole-fin structure comprises a fin-like extension integrally fused to a sole portion of the shoe-like structure and a flexible folding zone, thereby facilitating the easy movement of the fin-like extension for engaging with the shoe-like structure. The fin-like extension folds upward and is secured to the shoe-like structure in the walking mode and unfolds with minimal manipulation for swimming without the need for mechanical pivoting or locking devices. The fin-like extension has a length not exceeding the distance to the user's ankle when secured in the walking mode thereby allowing for unencumbered walking but still providing ample surface area for increased propulsion during swimming.
