A running board illumination system is provided for a motor vehicle. That running board illumination system includes a first illumination element and an optical lens for directing light emitted by the first illumination element onto a running board of the motor vehicle. That optical lens may further include a fluorescent coating to provide a passive marker light glow when the first illumination element is extinguished.

A lighting system of a vehicle is provided herein and includes a headlamp, a taillight, and a controller configured to operate the headlamp and the taillight. The controller implements an activation sequence based on a state of a door. The activation sequence includes sequentially activating at least one of the headlamp and the taillight from inboard to outboard.

A running board illumination system is provided for a motor vehicle. That system includes a first illumination element having a first color, a second illumination element having a second, different color and a controller. A lighting system of a vehicle is provided herein. The lighting system includes a running board having a step pad and a photoluminescent structure coupled thereto. A light assembly is configured to excite the photoluminescent structure when the running board is in a stowed position. The photoluminescent structure luminesces in response to light excitation and continues to luminesce for a period of time after the running board is moved to a deployed position and excitation light ceases to be provided.

A headlamp assembly includes a bezel defining a first surface and a second surface inclined with respect to the first surface and located at an outboard periphery, a series of fingers separated by slots, each slot extending through the first surface and the second surface, light sources, and light guides, each light guide fitted into one of the slots, for transmitting light from one of the light sources, along and through one of the slots.
