A system for determining an operational state of an atmospheric pressure plasma. The system has a transformer for coupling power into the atmospheric pressure plasma, a current sampling circuit configured to sample at least one current pulse flowing through a primary winding of the transformer, and a programmed microprocessor configured to determine, from a waveform of the current pulse, the operational state of the atmospheric pressure plasma. The operational state is one of: a no plasma state, a plasma origination state indicative of an ignited arc expanding into a plasma by gas flow thereinto, and a plasma maintenance state indicative of the plasma being expanded.

Waveform detection of states and faults in plasma inverters

A ballast transformer and system using the ballast transformer to couple power to a plasma load. The ballast transformer has a magnetic core, a first primary winding on a primary side of the magnetic core, a secondary winding on a secondary side of the magnetic core, and a second primary winding connected in series with the first primary winding and wound in proximity to the secondary winding on the secondary side of the magnetic core. The first primary winding is connectable to the AC power source, and the secondary winding is connectable to the plasma load via a coaxial cable.

Asymmetrical ballast transformer

A system for plasma ignition and maintenance of an atmospheric pressure plasma. The system has a variable frequency alternating current (AC) power source, a transformer, a cable connected to a secondary winding of the transformer, a programmed microprocessor for control of power to the atmospheric pressure plasma. The microprocessor is configured to a) at pre-ignition, power the AC power source at an operational frequency fhigher than the resonant frequency f, b) decrease the operational frequency fof the AC power source until there is plasma ignition, and c) after the plasma ignition, further decrease the operational frequency fof the AC power source to a frequency lower than the resonant frequency f.

Frequency chirp resonant optimal plasma ignition method

A control body and cartridge that are coupleable with one another to form an aerosol delivery device are provided. The control body comprises a control component and an RFID reader contained within at least one housing. The cartridge comprises at least one heating element and an RFID tag contained within at least one housing. The RFID reader of the control body is coupled to the control component of the control body and configured to communicate with the RFID tag of the cartridge upon coupling of the control body with the cartridge. The control component of the control body is configured to authorize the cartridge for use with the control body based at least in part on communication between the RFID reader and the RFID tag.

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) authentication system for aerosol delivery devices

A base station measures the uplink load on an uplink channel and controls the transmit timing of one or more mobile terminals on the uplink channel based on the measurements of the uplink load. The transmit timing of the mobile terminals may be controlled by sending timing control signals to the mobile terminals over a downlink control channel. In one embodiment, the transmit timing of the uplink channel is slaved to the transmit timing on a downlink channel. In this case, the uplink timing may be controlled by adjusting the downlink transmit timing.

A method of adjusting exposure settings for a digital camera includes searching at least a portion of the field of view of the camera for pixels having a flesh tone. The flesh tone pixels are analyzed to identify at least one flesh tone spot. Spot metering of the field of view of the camera is carried out such that at least one flesh tone spot is given greater weight than the rest of the field of view. Then, the exposure settings are adjusted based on the spot metering.

System and method for camera metering based on flesh tone detection

A system and method of masking an objectionable artifact in a mobile telephone. The process starts by referring to the design characteristics of the mobile phone to determine the expected level and source of objectionable artifacts that will be apparent during operation of the mobile phone. The noise necessary to mask the objectionable artifact is then calculated. The masking noise signal is then created within the mobile telephone and superimposed over the objectionable artifact. The masking noise signal is typically created in a digital signal processor (DSP) resident within the mobile telephone using a pseudo-noise generator. The masking noise signal can be stored as a look-up table in the digital signal processor (DSP) of the mobile telephone. To further enhance the effectiveness of the masking process, the masking noise signal is filtered to best match the objectionable artifact. The masking noise signal can be low pass filtered for objectionable artifacts that are lower in frequency. The masking noise signal can be high pass filtered for objectionable artifacts that are higher in frequency. Or, the masking noise signal can be band pass filtered for objectionable artifacts regardless of frequency. In an alternative embodiment, the masking noise signal can be created as a band-limited masking noise signal created within a pre-determined frequency bandwidth correlated to the frequency bandwidth of the objectionable artifact.

A communications apparatus for coupling a transmitter and receiver for duplex transmission is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a transmitter with a transmit power amplifier, a receiver with a receive filter, and a circulator with a plurality of ports, wherein the transmit power amplifier is connected to a first port of the circulator and the receiver filter is connected to a second port of the circulator. An antenna is demountably connected to a third port of the circulator. A switch alternately connects a load and the receiver to the second port of the circulator, wherein the receiver is connected to the second port of the circulator during reception of signals and the load is connected to the second port of the circulator during transmission so as to absorb power reflected by the antenna.
