Systems, apparatuses and methods provides for technology that applies, with a printhead of a printing system, ink to a substrate as the substrate remains stationary and the printhead moves across the substrate. The technology determines, with a distance encoder, a distance that the printhead has moved, and controls application of the ink from the printhead to the substrate based on the distance.

A protection cap assembly for enclosing an end portion of a fastener which extends through a structure of an aircraft includes a cap member having a sidewall defining an opening and an interior space wherein the opening is aligned with the interior space for receiving the end portion of the fastener through the opening and into the interior space and an end surface for abutting the structure. The protection cap assembly further includes a projection secured to and which extends from the end surface of the sidewall of the cap member.

The present disclosure is directed to a method for applying a multi-colored coating to a composite structure comprising applying a first co-curable film layer comprising a first color marking to a composite tool, applying a second co-curable film layer comprising a second color marking over the composite tool and at least partially over the first co-curable film layer to create a lay-up of a multi-colored marking, applying a composite structure over the lay-up of the multi-colored marking, and curing the lay-up of the multi-colored marking and the composite structure in a single curing step to create a cured multi-colored coating on the composite structure. Co-curable film layer application

Methods for placing an indicia on a composite structure generally include printing the indicia on a first film surface of a coating film, with the coating film being in a partially cured state at the time the printing the indicia is performed, and positioning the coating film on a partially cured composite structure such that a second film surface of the coating film faces and is positioned against a surface of the composite structure, with the second film surface being opposite the first film surface. Finally, the coating film and the composite structure may then be co-cured. Systems for printing an indicia on a composite structure generally include the coating film, a printer configured to print the indicia on the first film surface of the coating film, a securement configured to secure the coating film during printing, and a curing device for co-curing the coating film and the composite structure.

Methods and systems for inkjet printing on co-curable paint film

A method includes receiving information specifying a color gamut. The color gamut corresponds to a range of colors producible by an output device. The method further includes receiving a first indication of a first color associated with a first point in a geometrical representation of the color gamut in a three-dimensional (3D) color space. The method further includes generating, based on the first color, a second indication of a second color that is included in the color gamut. The second color is associated with a second point in the 3D color space. The second point is identified based on a particular value of data associated with a plurality of distances between the first point and a subset of points of the geometrical representation. The subset of points includes more than one and fewer than all points of the geometrical representation.

Apparatus and method to determine a color within a range of colors producible by an output device

A method of treating a contoured surface with surface treatment layer includes applying a surface preparation layer along the contoured surface and applying a basecoat layer on top of the surface preparation layer. The method further includes stabilizing the basecoat layer to prepare a basecoat surface along the basecoat layer for one or more subsequent layers of the surface treatment coating and jetting a decorative livery layer along the contoured surface using one or more ink jet print heads. The method further includes applying an adhesion promoter on top of the decorative livery layer and stabilizing the adhesion promoter layer to produce a desired bonding surface along the adhesion promoter layer. Additionally, the method includes applying a clear coat layer to cover the underlying decorative livery layer, the basecoat layer and the surface preparation layer.
