A flexible conduit or sleeve sized for surrounding and supporting a movable wire rope includes an inner core having an opening for receiving the movable wire rope, a plurality of wires disposed about the inner core, and an outer sleeve. The outer sleeve is made from a polymer material having a flame retardant additive that provides sufficient flexibility while also improving manufacturability for use in various applications, such as part of an aircraft seat adjustment mechanism.

Technologies are described for assemblies to recline a seat. The assemblies may comprise a shaft, a threaded end at a first end of the shaft, a Stroke limiter, a seat back mounting, a mounting fastener, an energy absorber, and at least one locknut. A first end of the Stroke limiter may be attached to a second end of the shaft. The seat back mounting may be attached to a second end of the Stroke limiter and the mounting fastener. The energy absorber may be a kinetic energy absorbing element and the shaft may pass through the energy absorber. The locknut may be configured to secure the shaft of the seat recline assembly to the seat frame mounting with the end of the shaft attached to the Stroke limiter on a first side of the seat frame mounting and the energy absorber on a second side of the seat frame mounting.

Button assemblies for controlling a seat position and for mounting on a seat panel are provided. The button assemblies may have a button housing having a portion that is configured to position over edges of an opening in the seat panel. One or more flexible retaining members integral to or attached to the button housing are configured to compress through the opening in the seat panel and expand therein positioned opposite an inner surface thereof upon insertion, securing the assembly within the opening.

An actuator includes a piston assembly movably disposed within an assembly housing having a fixedly supported end and an opposing end that receives a movable piston assembly. The piston assembly includes a piston rod and an attached piston head having a fixed orifice as well as an orifice with a check valve to create rate control of the assembly. Hydraulic fluid is caused to move through the axially movable piston head based on compressive and tensile loads imparted to the assembly. A plurality of pre-loaded springs are configured to selectively provide pressure relief in the event the orifices of the piston become clogged, wherein the plurality of pre-loaded springs, such as disc springs, further provide an energy absorbing function of the assembly based on loading conditions.

A damping assembly for a pivoting stowage bin includes a rotary hydraulic damper that is mounted on the pivot axis of the stowage bin. The rotary hydraulic damper includes a damper body that receives a rotor having at least one vane moved through contained hydraulic fluid. Preferably, an exterior bearing surface on the damper precludes the active damping elements from radial loads, while a distributed attachment of the rotor to the pivoting bin enables reduced torque loads. The damper can include an integrated flow-control valve for controlling the opening rate of the pivoting bin as well as an integrated mechanical stop for the bin.

A mechanical linear actuator having a tubular member that is defined by a housing for rotatably and axially supporting a circular nut, a lead screw is mated to the circular nut so that it can move axially in and out of the tubular member. A torsion spring clutch brake is wound about the circular nut to normally brake the nut and thus prevent the lead screw from moving into or out of the tubular member. An unlocking mechanism can remotely unwind the torsion spring clutch brake to sufficiently release the circular nut and thus allow the lead screw to pass in and out of the tubular member. An adjustable stop is provided for adjusting the stroke of the actuator.

A recoil pad for a shoulder firearm includes at least one piston member that is caused to move axially from an initial axial position to a second axial position upon application of the recoil force from the firearm. The axial movement of the piston member causes fluid movement within a column relative to a variable or fixed orifice area wherein the fluid movement causes resistance that absorbs the energy. A mechanical and/or hydraulic and/or elastomeric feature returns the piston to the initial axial position upon cessation of the applied recoiling force.

A control apparatus associated with a hydraulic lock that contains a piston rod and an operating pin slidably contained within piston rod. A conduit contains a proximal end connected to a push button unit and a distal end connected to a lever arm assembly. The lever arm assembly contains a platform secured to the terminal end of the piston rod and a lever arm rotatably mounted over the operating pin. A cable extends through the conduit between a rocker arm in the push button unit and the lever arm so that when the button is depressed, the operating pin is moved from an inoperative position to an operative position. A locking plate is pivotally mounted upon the distal end of the conduit and arranged to move over the top surface of the platform into locking engagement with the piston rod. A cutout is formed in the plate which engages a groove formed in the terminal end of the piston rod to lock the lever arm assembly to the rod with the lever arm in position to engage the operating shaft.

Control apparatus for hydraulic lock

Apparatus for preventing the unwanted extension of a hydraulic lock when the lock is subjected to relatively high dynamic loads. The lock includes a hydraulic cylinder having a piston slidably mounted therein. The piston is secured to a piston rod which passes outwardly through one end wall of the cylinder. The lock is placed in tension when the piston rod is being extended and in compression when the rod is being retracted. A flow channel is formed in the piston through which fluid is exchanged from one side of the piston to the other. A manually operated spring biased control valve is mounted in the flow channel which is normally held closed by a set spring. Fluid is allowed to flow when the valve is manually opened or when the lock is placed in tension by some external force that overcomes the biasing force of the set spring. A velocity sensitive restrictor is also mounted in the flow channel that closes the channel when the lock is placed in tension by a dynamic force above a predetermined velocity.

A rotary friction damper in a device for connecting a door to an adjacent structure such that the door pivots about an axis during opening and closing of the same and including a torsion spring operatively connected to the door and to the structure for movement about the pivot axis to store energy during opening of the door and to release energy to provide closing during closing of the door. The rotary friction damper is operatively associated with the torsion spring and has an axis of rotation disposed substantially parallel to the pivot axis for controlling the door closing speed. A damper housing rotates in response to application of input rotational force, and damper shoes within the housing are moved radially outwardly into frictional engagement with the housing. An arrangement of disc springs applies biasing force in a direction parallel to the axis of rotation of the damper, and the biasing force is directed to cause radial outward movement of the shoes. The biasing force is varied as a function of the rotational position of the applied force by the combination of a cam having a surface profile shaped to vary the biasing force and a cam element contacting the surface and moved in response to application of the input rotational force.

A rotary friction damper in a device for connecting a door to an adjacent structure such that the door pivots about an axis during opening and closing of the same and including a torsion spring operatively connected to the door and to the structure for movement about the pivot axis to store energy during opening of the door and to release energy to provide closing during closing of the door. The rotary friction damper is operatively associated with the torsion spring and has an axis of rotation disposed substantially parallel to the pivot axis for controlling the door closing speed. The rotary friction damper is adjustable and variable. A mechanism operatively associated with the damper varies the resistance of the damper to movement of the torsion spring to produce a controlled uniform closing speed of the door and for reducing the resistance of the damper to movement of the torsion spring when the door nears the closed position to allow the torsion spring to close the door in an unrestricted manner. The mechanism for varying the resistance of the damper is responsive to movement of the torsion spring so that maximum resistance of the damper to movement of the torsion spring occurs when maximum closing power is applied by the torsion spring when the door is fully open, and the resistance of the damper to movement of the torsion spring is reduced as the door closes.
