The present provides a condensing heat exchanger assembly that includes a plurality of heat exchanger passes. The condensing furnace includes a burner assembly having a combustion air device and further includes a frame having primary heat exchanger with a first pass and a second pass. A secondary heat exchanger having a third pass and a fourth pass. The primary heat exchanger assembly may be generally parallel to the secondary heat exchanger assembly such that supply airflow may traverse over the primary and secondary heat exchangers simultaneously in both a first direction and in an opposite second direction. The first pass may include a single drum. The second pass, third pass and fourth pass may include a plurality of aligned tubes.

Four pass high efficiency furnace and heat exchanger

A heat exchanger tube having an integral restricting and turbulating structure consisting of dimples formed by confronting indentations pressed into the sides of the heat exchanger tube. The dimples are comprised of indentations disposed in pairs which extend into the tube to such a depth as is necessary to significantly reduce the cross sectional area of the heat exchanger tube. The dimples of a pair are staggered or offset, longitudinally with respect to each other such that a restrictive passage is defined between each pair of offset dimples. The turbulence characteristics of the tube can be controlled by varying the depth to which the dimples project into the tube and the longitudinal spacing between the dimples that comprise the pair. Adjacent pairs of dimples may be rotated 90&#xb0; with respect to each other or alternately can be arranged in a helix pattern.

Heat exchanger tube with integral restricting and turbulating structure

A gas fired furnace capable of operating with a 16:1 turndown ratio or greater. The furnace includes a plurality of burners () grouped into at least () first and second () groups, each group connected to a source of combustible gas through a control valve (). The control valve () controlling at least one group of burners is of a modulating type having an output proportional to a control signal applied to the valve. The burners fire into associated heat exchange tubes (), each tube having an inlet () and an outlet. The tube outlets are connected to a collector chamber () that includes a baffle plate () that divides the collector into two sections, one of the sections communicating with the outlets of the tubes associated with the first group of burners, the other section communicating with the outlets of the heat exchanger tubes associated with the other group of burners.

Furnace

A heat exchanger tube having an integral restricting and turbulating structure consisting of dimples formed by confronting indentations pressed into the sides of the heat exchanger tube. The dimples are comprised of indentations disposed in pairs which extend into the tube to such a depth as is necessary to significantly reduce the cross sectional area of the heat exchanger tube and provide a pair of converging, diverging flow nozzles to promote turbulence of the flue gases. The turbulence characteristics of the tube can be controlled by varying the size of the aperture of the nozzles. In certain applications, the dimples are located along the sides of the heat exchanger tube, thereby providing unobstructed drainage for liquids even when the tube is bent into a serpentine shape.

A burner having an elongate, generally tubular sheet metal body having an inlet end, a closed distal end and a tubular segment extending between the ends. The inlet end is formed to define a gas orifice holder which is adapted to mount a gas orifice element. The inlet end is further formed to define at least one primary air opening arranged to admit primary air from a source of primary air. Rows of flame ports are defined in the tubular segment and are arranged to create a desired predetermined flame pattern. When used as a fireplace burner the flame ports may be slot-like in construction and include tabs which determine the effective size of the ports. In a fireplace application, flame ports located below a crossover log, are eliminated and/or formed of reduced size, thus providing a flame of lower height and/or less intensity, thus substantially eliminating sooting. When used as a premix-type burner, a source of primary air under pressure is delivered to the inlet end of the burner and compensates for the restriction posed by the bluff structure, resulting in a blue flame.

Gas burner

A gas burner that produces a yellow flame for use in a fireplace assembly, including front and rear non-combustible logs and a cross-over log supported atop the front and rear logs. The burner includes an elongate, generally tubular sheet metal body having an inlet end, a closed distal end and a tubular segment extending between the ends. The inlet end is formed to define a gas orifice holder which is adapted to mount a gas orifice element and to define at least one primary air opening arranged to admit combustion air into the tubular burner segment. A bluff body is located downstream from the gas orifice element and is positioned such that gas emitted by the orifice impinges on the bluff body. Rows of slot-like flame ports are defined in the tubular segment and are arranged to create a desired predetermined flame pattern and include tabs which determine the effective size of the ports. In regions of the burner located below the crossover log, flame ports are eliminated and/or formed of reduced size, thus providing a flame of lower height and/or less intensity, thus substantially eliminating sooting. In alternate embodiments, the bluff body is formed by a pair of confronting depressions that define a pair of venturi channels which define the mixing chamber. In another embodiment, the confronting depressions are spaced apart and mount a cylindrical bluff element therebetween. The use of venturi channels eliminates or substantially reduces the incidence of light back.

Electrostatic air cleaner apparatus is disclosed for use in conjunction with existing space conditioning apparatus which includes a transformer providing a low voltage (typically 24VAC) power signal. The apparatus includes a power supply which is adapted to be coupled to the output of the transformer for providing a low voltage DC power signal. A high voltage generator and regulator is included which is powered by the low voltage DC power signal. The generator and regulator includes a flyback transformer arrangement which generates a high voltage DC signal suitable for energizing the collector and ionizer stages of an air cleaner assembly. The generator and regulator also includes closed loop feedback for regulating the amplitude of the high voltage DC signal so that it remains at or near the optimum amplitude regardless of variations in the amplitude of the low voltage power signal supplied by the existing low voltage transformer. The apparatus also includes an air cleaner assembly to which the high voltage DC signal is applied.
