Apparatus and associated methods relate to an automatic ordering method including a network-connected machine-readable code scanner identifying a product, and a network-connected weigh scale identifying a current weight of the product, the method further triggering an automatic order process when the current weight crosses a predetermined threshold. In an illustrative example, the automatic order process may send a signal to a user's network-connected personal device containing a notification that the product's current weight has crossed the predetermined threshold. The user may be presented one or more options, for example, regarding product purchase. In some examples, user setup selections may provide input to a function that determines the predetermined weight threshold. Various examples may include a network server. Online merchants providing online ordering of the product may also connect to the network server, for example. Various automatic ordering methods may advantageously facilitate and/or promote just-in-time delivery of consumable products.

Automatic ordering method

Apparatus and associated methods relate to a particulate matter (PM) sensor assembly receiving a PM count value from an optical pulse counting sensor and selectively calibrating the sensor characteristics in response to recent published high-accuracy air-quality information within a local region that contains the sensor assembly. In an illustrative example, the air-quality information may be generated by various PM monitoring stations and published in data streams or collections, for example. The sensor assembly may select, for example, a specific regional PM mass density reference value from the received air-quality information associated with location information of the sensor assembly. Based on the published air-quality information, the sensor assembly may select a calibration curve from, for example, a set of predetermined calibration curves. A mobile low-cost PM sensor assembly, may advantageously leverage high-cost published PM air-quality information to dynamically improve accuracy in local PM measurement.

Automatic ordering apparatus

A fluid flow sensing apparatus and method for detecting pressure and the presence of bubbles within a fluid tube. The flow sensor comprises a housing configured to receive a portion of the tube and to house the pressure sensor and the ultrasonic transmitter. The pressure sensor is positioned adjacent the tube and is configured to receive a pressure sensor signal, which correlates to a detected pressure differential within the tube. An internal controller transmits a drive signal to the ultrasonic transmitter, which emits ultrasonic waves through a portion of the tube and to the pressure sensor. The pressure sensor receives both the ultrasonic waves and a pressure sensor signal, and subsequently transmits an output signal to the internal controller. In the presence of a pressure differential or a bubble within the tube, the output signal will exhibit a DC shift or a distortion of its signal characteristics, respectively.

Fluid flow sensor

Systems and methods for ring laser gyroscopes (RLGs) are provided. An RLG includes a traveling-wave resonator cavity with three or more mirrors and a gain medium positioned in the traveling-wave resonator cavity between two of the three or more mirrors. The gain medium is a solid-state gain medium or a nonlinear optical medium. The RLG further includes a first pump laser and a second pump laser to pump the gain medium in different directions and generate first and second lasing signals that traverse the traveling-wave resonator cavity in a opposite directions. The RLG further includes first and second photodetectors to measure levels of the first and second lasing signals. The RLG further includes at least one processor configured to adjust a power level of the first pump laser and/or a power level of the second pump laser based on the measured power levels of the first and second lasing signals.

A method for gas detection may comprise providing a gas sealed in a cavity of a gas detector; directing radiative power from a light source through one or more target gases and through a cell body of the gas detector toward the cavity and a wavelength selective absorber of the gas detector, wherein the one or more target gases are located between the light source and the cavity; setting wavelength sensitivity with the wavelength selective absorber, wherein the wavelength sensitivity is irrespective of an angle of incidence (?); absorbing the radiative power by the wavelength selective absorber and by the one or more target gases; detecting, by a pressure sensing element, a pressure change caused by the absorbing of the radiative power; and determining the one or more target gases based on the detected pressure change.

A ring laser gyroscope comprises an optical block that defines an optical closed loop pathway; at least one mirror structure mounted on the optical block and in communication with the closed loop pathway; at least one volume Bragg grating mounted on the optical block and in communication with the closed loop pathway; and a pump laser in communication with the volume Bragg grating, the laser operative to emit a light beam at a selected incident angle such that the beam passes through the volume Bragg grating and overlaps with the closed loop pathway. The volume Bragg grating is operative as a gain medium to increase an optical power of the beam, and a pair of counter-propagating beams is produced within the closed loop pathway from the beam. The mirror structure and the volume Bragg grating are positioned and angled to reflect the counter-propagating beams around the closed loop pathway.

A plurality primary cavity mirrors are configured to route light of a second wavelength around a primary cavity to a readout device. One primary cavity mirror of the plurality of primary cavity mirrors includes a gain medium. The pumping mirror and the one primary cavity mirror including the gain medium is positioned and configured to reflect the light of the first wavelength back and forth in a pumping cavity through the gain medium, wherein the light of the first wavelength stimulates the gain medium to generate the light of the second wavelength that are reflected around the primary cavity to the readout device.

A solid state ring laser gyroscope comprises a laser block including a resonant ring cavity having an optical closed loop pathway; a plurality of mirror structures mounted on the block and including respective multilayer mirrors that reflect light beams around the closed loop pathway; and a pump laser assembly in optical communication with the closed loop pathway through one of the mirror structures. One or more of the multilayer mirrors includes a rare-earth doped gain layer operative to produce bidirectional optical amplification of counter-propagating light beams in the closed loop pathway. In some embodiments, the gain layer comprises a rare-earth dopant other than neodymium that is doped into a glassy host material comprising titania, tantalum oxide, alumina, zirconia, silicate glass, phosphate glass, tellurite glass, fluorosilicate glass, or non-oxide glass.
