A signal generator and decoder are used for a single sideband spread spectrum signal. A single sideband spread spectrum signal generator and decoder in which single sideband modulation using a complex spreading code is achieved with improved correlation properties, so that the interference between users is reduced.

Signal generator and decoder

A receiver receives spread spectrum signals which include unwanted narrowband signals, for example, radio signals which comprise a mixture of signals from signal sources using the Group Special Mobile (GSM) ETSI standard coding and from signal sources using Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) coding. Both despreading of the spread spectrum signal and attenuating of predetermined frequencies (corresponding to the narrowband signal) of the spread spectrum signal are performed prior to downconverting. In another approach to decoding a spread spectrum signal in which an unwanted narrowband signal has been coded using a coding scheme with error correction capabilities, the narrowband signal is decoded, regenerated and subtracted prior to despreading of the spread spectrum signal.

Receiving spread spectrum signals with narrowband interference

A receiver at a node in an optical network receives an optical clock signal and an OTDM datastream. A detector converts the clock signal to the electrical domain. A variable delay stage applies a selected delay to the clock signal in the electrical domain. A non-linear electro-optic modulator which may be an electro-absorption modulator, receives the OTDM datastream at its optical input. An electrical control input of the modulator is connected to the output of the variable delay stage. The electro-optic modulator outputs an OTDM channel selected by setting the delay of the variable delay stage. The variable delay stage may include a number of logic gates, particularly AND gates, connected between a pair of microstrip delay lines. The gates are controlled to provide different paths with different corresponding delay times for the clock signal.
