The invention relates to novel method of incorporating free fatty acid into soap-based bars to minimize or eliminate efflorescence and to compositions made by the process.

Process for making bar composition having little or no efflorescence

The invention relates to perfume-containing bar compositions in which the effect of said perfume(s) (e.g., longevity) is enhanced relative to comparative bars in that perfume-containing bar of the invention, comprise less than about 35% soluble surfactant. The invention further comprises a process for enhancing deposition/longevity of perfume, for example, by controlling the level of soluble active relative to insoluble active and/or by increasing levels of perfume.

The present invention relates to novel chip compositions containing specific polyol ester as the major carrier for liquid skin benefit agents. Such a polyol ester also permits the liquid benefit agents to be released into a personal wash liquor and then to be delivered to skin via personal wash. That is, by coextruding and stamping the mixture of chips containing skin benefit agents and base chips containing a surfactant system, high levels of oils and/or humectants can be incorporated into solid toilet bars by standard extrusion technology. In the third embodiment, skin mildness and especially skin moisturization are significantly enhanced by the detergent bar compositions comprising the combination of the specific polyol ester with oil and/or humectant.

Novel compositions are prepared in a non-molten process. In particular, compositions comprise optional fillers with both soap and high levels of synthetic surfactants. When high levels of soap and surfactant are normally used in such process, there is a significant 'grittiness' problem. Pre-processing the surfactant containing chip (e.g., 'DEFI' chip) has been unexpectedly found to remedy this problem.
