A method for performing simultaneous operations at a wellsite comprising two or more adjacent wellheads, each respectively connected to a well, may include the following steps: providing a fluid supply via upstream equipment to an intermediate supply point; fluidly connecting the intermediate supply point to a single wellhead, the fluidly connecting comprising connecting a first end of a flexible pipe to the intermediate supply point and a second end of the flexible pipe to a first wellhead; performing a wellbore operation on a first well using the fluid supply from the upstream equipment supplied to the first wellhead; disconnecting the second end of the flexible pipe from the first wellhead; and connecting the second end of the flexible pipe to a second wellhead.

A hammer union includes a male sub, a threaded female sub, a threaded union nut disposed around abutting ends of the threaded female sub and the male sub, the abutting ends of the threaded female sub and the male sub include contact surfaces perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the hammer union, and an outermost diameter of the perpendicular contact surfaces and a minor thread diameter of the female sub are equidistant from a longitudinal axis of the hammer union. A method of assembling a hammer union includes inserting a plurality of load segments between a threaded union nut and a male sub, threadedly engaging internal threads of the threaded union nut with external threads of a female sub, and engaging flat contact surfaces of abutting ends of the male sub and the female sub.

Dual face-type seat seal arrangement for valve applications

A swivel joint includes a tubular female member which is rotatably connected to a tubular male member. The female member includes a female race portion having an axially extending inner annular recess, a female inner end portion which is formed at an axially inner end of the recess, and a number of inner annular grooves which are formed in the recess coaxially therewith. The male member includes a male race portion having an annular outer surface which is configured to be received in the recess, a male nose portion which is formed at an end of the male race portion, and a number of outer annular grooves which are formed on the outer surface coaxially therewith. The male race portion is positioned in the female race portion such that the male nose portion is located adjacent the female inner end portion and each outer groove is aligned with a corresponding inner groove to thereby define a number of annular bearing races within which a plurality of balls are received to thereby rotatably connect the male member to the female member. A first primary seal is positioned between the male nose portion and the female inner end portion, and a second seal is positioned between the male nose portion and the female inner end portion radially outwardly of the first primary seal. The male nose portion comprises an end wall which extends radially outwardly from the flow bore and a conical side wall which extends both radially and axially outwardly relative to the cylindrical side wall, and the second seal comprises at least a first portion which sealingly engages the conical side wall.

A swivel joint comprises a tubular female member which is rotatably connected to a tubular male member. The female member includes a female race portion having an axially extending inner annular recess, a female inner end portion which is formed at an axially inner end of the recess, and a number of inner annular grooves which are formed in the recess coaxially therewith. The male member includes a male race portion having an annular outer surface which is configured to be received in the recess, a male nose portion which is formed at an end of the male race portion, and a number of outer annular grooves which are formed on the outer surface coaxially therewith. The male race portion is positioned in the female race portion such that the male nose portion is located adjacent the female inner end portion and each outer groove is aligned with a corresponding inner groove to thereby define a number of annular bearing races within which a plurality of balls are received to thereby rotatably connect the male member to the female member. The swivel joint includes a first primary seal which is positioned between the male nose portion and the female inner end portion, and a second primary seal which is positioned between the male nose portion and the female inner end portion radially outwardly of the first primary seal. The male and female members define a flow bore through the swivel joint which is sealed by the first primary seal and, in the event of a failure of the first primary seal, the second primary seal.

A manifold assembly for connecting a plurality of pumping units to a wellhead includes at least one main line which is connectable to the wellhead and includes a plurality of discharge connectors, and a plurality of articulating arm assemblies which are each connected to a corresponding discharge connector. Each arm assembly comprises a connector member which includes at least an inlet port, an outlet port and a third port that is located generally opposite the outlet port and is closed by a removable plug member, an articulating conduit assembly which comprises a first end that is connected to the inlet port and a second end that is connectable to a corresponding one of the plurality of pumping units, and a riser swivel which is connected between the outlet port and the discharge connector. In use of the manifold assembly, each arm assembly is connected to a corresponding pumping unit and the main line is connected to the wellhead to thereby connect the pumping units to the wellhead.

Manifold assembly with multiple articulating arm assemblies

A manifold trailer comprises at least one main line having a plurality of discharge connectors and a plurality of articulating arm assemblies which are each connected to a corresponding discharge connector. Each arm assembly comprises a connector member which includes an inlet port, an outlet port and a third port which is located generally opposite the outlet port and is closed by a removable plug member. Each arm assembly also includes an articulating conduit assembly which comprises a first end that is connected to the inlet port and a riser swivel which is connected to the outlet port. During deployment of the arm assembly, a second end of the conduit assembly is connectable to a pumping unit to thereby fluidly connect the pumping unit to the main line.

Manifold trailer with multiple articulating arm assemblies

A discharge arm assembly for a truck or trailer-mounted pumping unit comprises a jumper line which is connected to the outlet of the pumping unit, a base unit which is connected to the outlet of the jumper line, and an articulated arm which is connected to the outlet of the base unit. The base unit includes a base conduit which is rigidly secured to the truck or trailer and a swivel arm which is rotatable about a generally vertical axis. The articulated arm comprises a first generally straight pipe which is connected to the swivel arm by a generally 90&#xb0; elbow. A brace member comprises a first end which is connected to the swivel arm and a second end which is connected to the first pipe to thereby support the first pipe for movement in a generally horizontal plane.

Discharge arm assembly for pumping units

A swivel joint comprises a tubular male member having at least first and second outer annular grooves formed on an outer surface, a tubular female member having at least first and second inner annular grooves formed on an inner recess, and a plurality of balls disposed in at least first and second annular races which are formed by the alignment of the first and second outer grooves with the first and second inner grooves when a first end of the male member is received within the recess of the female member. In addition, the radius of the first race is greater than the radius of an adjacent race closer to the first end of the male member, and the number of balls in the first race is just one more than the number of balls in the adjacent race closer to the first end.

The invention is directed to a coiled tubing swivel for rotatably connecting a first conduit to a second conduit. The swivel comprises a swivel body having a cylindrical receptacle and a flowpath that communicates between the receptacle and the first conduit, a tubular mandrel having a first end that is received within the receptacle and a second end which communicates with the second conduit, and a bearing assembly positioned between the receptacle and the mandrel. The bearing assembly includes a central axis, a cylindrical outer sleeve having an inner surface and a number of annular inner grooves which are formed on the inner surface coaxially with the central axis, and a cylindrical inner sleeve having an outer surface and a number of annular outer grooves which are formed on the outer surface coaxially with the central axis. The outer grooves align with respective inner grooves to define a number of bearing races, and a plurality of balls are disposed in the bearing races to rotatably secure the inner sleeve to the outer sleeve. Moreover, each bearing race comprises a diameter which is smaller than the diameter of the adjacent bearing race that is closer to the first end of the mandrel. In addition, the swivel comprises a packing for sealing the bearing assembly from the flowpath in the swivel body.

The invention is directed to a plug valve comprising a body which includes an inlet port, an outlet port and a cavity that is connected between the inlet and outlet ports; first and second seal segments which are mounted in the cavity and which each comprise a through bore that is coaxial with the inlet and outlet ports; the through bores and the inlet and outlet ports defining a flow passage through the body; a plug member which is rotatably positioned between the first and second seal segments and which includes a hole that extends transversely therethrough; the plug member being rotatable between an open position in which the hole is aligned with the flow passage and a closed position in which the hole is offset from the flow passage; and at least a first booster spring which is positioned between the first seal segment and the body to bias the first seal segment against the plug member.

The present invention is directed to a swivel joint for fluid conduits which comprises a central axis; a tubular male member having an outer annular surface, a first end and at least first and second outer annular grooves formed on the outer surface coaxial with the central axis; a tubular female member having an inner annular recess, an annular shoulder formed at an inner end of the recess and at least first and second inner annular grooves formed on the recess coaxial with the central axis; wherein the outer surface of the male member is adapted to be received in the recess of the female member such that the first end is disposed proximate the shoulder and each outer groove is aligned with a corresponding inner groove to thereby define at least first and second annular races; a plurality of balls disposed in each race to secure said male and female members together and to facilitate relative rotation of the male and female members about the central axis; wherein the radius of each race as measured from the central axis is greater than the radius of each adjacent race closer to the first end of the male member; and wherein the number of balls in each race is one more than the number of balls in each adjacent race closer to the first end.

A fluid-carrying swivel joint has a stepped bearing race arrangement on interconnecting hubs having an improved bore seal capability. The stepped arrangement allows more ball bearings per adjacent race which allows equal distribution of hydrostatic end loading to each bearing race, thereby enabling maximum total end loading while minimizing load concentration on a particular bearing race section due to increased total ball and race contact area. A straight bore type seal is used to reduce surface area subject to axial pressure and to minimize rotational friction.
