A delivery system and method for delivering a prosthetic heart valve to the aortic valve annulus via a transaortic approach. The system includes a balloon catheter for delivering a balloon-expandable prosthetic heart valve through an introducer from an approach from outside the patient, through a minimally-invasive opening in the chest cavity through an incision in the aorta, and into the aorta and aortic annulus. The balloon catheter includes a flexible, tapered tip just distal of the balloon to facilitate positioning of the prosthetic heart valve in the proper orientation within the aortic annulus. The prosthetic heart valve may be installed over the existing calcified leaflets, and a pre-dilation valvuloplasty procedure may also be utilized.

System and method for transaortic delivery of a prosthetic heart valve

Delivery systems for expandable elements, such as stents or scaffolds having spikes, flails, or other protruding features for penetrating target tissue and/or delivering drugs within a human patient are described along with associated methods for using such systems. The delivery systems can be provided with a stent that is positioned over an inflatable balloon for expansion and delivery of the stent to a target delivery location. By positioning the stent over and about the inflatable balloon, the stent is ready to be expanded by the balloon immediately upon unsheathing with respect to the outer shaft. Additionally or alternatively, a stent can be positioned in an axially offset arrangement with respect to a balloon to reduce the need for space required by overlapping components.

Delivery systems for stents having protruding features

A delivery system and method for delivering a prosthetic heart valve to the aortic valve. The system includes a delivery catheter having a steering mechanism thereon for delivering a balloon-expandable prosthetic heart valve to the aortic valve through an introducer passing into the left ventricle through its apex. The introducer may have a more floppy distal section than a proximal section to reduce trauma to the heart wall while preserving good operating field stability. The delivery catheter includes a deflecting segment just proximal to a distal balloon to facilitate positioning of the prosthetic heart valve in the proper orientation. A trigger in a catheter handle may be coupled to a deflection wire that actuates the deflecting segment, while a slider in the handle controls retraction of a valve pusher. The prosthetic heart valve may be installed over the existing calcified leaflets, and a pre-dilation valvuloplasty procedure may also be utilized.

Heart valve prosthesis delivery system and method for delivery of heart valve prosthesis with introducer sheath

Delivery systems for expandable elements, such as stents or scaffolds having spikes, flails, or other protruding features for delivering drugs and/or penetrating target tissue within a human patient and associated methods for using such systems. The delivery systems can be configured to deliver and position expandable structures within a body lumen (e.g., vessel). In addition, these delivery systems can also be configured to deploy and expand the expandable structures in the body lumen. The delivery systems can further be configured to engage with the expanded structure and collapse the structure for removal from the body lumen. The delivery systems can be configured to deliver another expandable structure or the same expandable structure to another body lumen, or the same body lumen, in a single procedure or during a plurality of procedures.

Described herein are systems and methods from delivering prosthetic devices, such as prosthetic heart valves, through the body and into the heart for implantation therein. The prosthetic devices delivered with the delivery systems disclosed herein are, for example, radially expandable from a radially compressed state mounted on the delivery system to a radially expanded state for implantation using an inflatable balloon of the delivery system. Exemplary delivery routes through the body and into the heart include transfemoral routes, transapical routes, and transaortic routes, among others.

Delivery systems for prosthetic heart valve

A retrieval device can include inwardly facing protruding features that facilitate engagement and capture of a thrombus or other mass from a body lumen of a patient. The protruding features can deploy from a frame of the retrieval device to extend radially inwardly toward an opposing side of the frame. When deployed into a thrombus, the protruding features engage and urge the thrombus as the retrieval device moves to facilitate capture.

Aortic occlusion and embolic protection devices include radially expandable and collapsible proximal and distal end portions, such as annular self-expanding stents or frames, that are configured to radially expand within an aorta to secure the device within the aorta. The devices can also include a catheter extending axially between the distal end portion and the proximal end portion and a porous covering, or filter, positioned around the catheter and between the proximal end portion and the distal end portion and configured to filter emboli from blood flowing into upper-body arteries. The device can further include a one-way valve positioned at or adjacent to the distal end portion of the device and configured to restrict retrograde blood flow through the device toward the heart.

Aortic occlusion device

Expandable elements having drug-delivery features and associated systems and methods are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a drug-eluting stent includes a radially expandable cylindrical frame having a plurality of struts. The frame is transformable between a low-profile delivery state and an expanded deployed state. A plurality of drug-delivery features are carried by one of the struts and configured to deliver a drug to a treatment site within the patient or piercing through the tissue wall to break the constricting of the vessel wall inwardly. When the frame is in the expanded state within a body lumen of the patient, the drug-delivery features extend radially outwardly away from the strut and are configured to engage and, in some arrangements, pass through a wall of the body lumen.

Stents having protruding drug-delivery features and associated systems and methods

A generally tubular intraluminal vascular graft having a linear shape that may be radially expanded from a compressed state to an expanded state within a body vessel is disclosed. The graft includes a plurality of stent portions which take the form of undulating filaments extending circumferentially along the tubular body and forming a generally ring-shaped configuration. The graft may further be equipped with a plurality of specifically-configured engagement members disposed on the outer surface of the graft which are configured to frictionally engage an inner wall of a vessel so as to inhibit longitudinal movement of the tubular body without piercing the vessel wall.

Aorto uni-iliac graft

A circumferential ablation catheter is provided that is particularly useful for ablating a circumferential region of tissue in a tubular region of or near the heart, such as a pulmonary vein. The catheter comprises an elongated tubular catheter body having an outer wall, proximal and distal ends, and a lumen extending therethrough. The catheter also comprises a generally tubular inner support member having proximal and distal ends and a lumen extending therethrough. A proximal portion of the inner support member extends into the lumen of the catheter body, and a distal portion of the inner support member extends outside the catheter body. A circumferential ablation element, such as an ultrasound transducer, is mounted on the distal portion of the inner support member outside the catheter body. A moveable tube extends through the lumen of the inner support member and through the catheter body. The moveable tube is longitudinally moveable relative to the inner support member and catheter body and has a distal end that extends beyond the distal end of the inner support member. An inflatable balloon is provided generally in surrounding relation to the circumferential ablation element. The inflatable balloon has a proximal end attached, directly or indirectly, to the distal end of the catheter body and a distal end attached, directly or indirectly, to a portion of the moveable tube that extends beyond the distal end of the inner support member. Longitudinal movement of the moveable tube relative to the catheter body and inner support member causes movement of the distal end of the balloon relative to the proximal end of the balloon to thereby change the length and shape of the expanded balloon.
