This document describes techniques and devices for informing an upper layer of barring alleviation for multiple access classes. In some situations, a radio resource control (RRC) layer of a user equipment (UE) can provide to an upper layer of the UE a barring message that indicates at least two access classes are barred in response to receiving a rejection message from a random access network (RAN). Responsive to the RRC layer determining that the at least two access classes are no longer barred, the RRC layer can provide the upper layer an alleviation message that indicates barring of the least two access classes is alleviated. By informing the upper layer of multiple access classes using the alleviation message, miscommunications regarding barring alleviation of the access classes can be avoided between the RRC layer and the upper layer.

Informing an upper layer of barring alleviation for multiple access classes

A UE communicating in DC with an MN and an SN receives a configuration related to a C-SN and at least one condition for connecting to the C-SN, determines that a radio connection between the UE and the MN has failed, and transmits a first indication of the failed radio connection to the SN to initiate a recovery procedure. The UE also releases the configuration and/or the at least one condition, or suspending a procedure, for connecting to the C-SN\.

Fast failure recovery with master node

A UE activates a timer for applying access control to transmissions associated with a certain access category during an access control period, in response to a first system information message received via a radio interface and a mobile-originated access request (). While the timer is running, the UE receives a second message that indicates a potential transition of the UE (i) from a current state associated with a protocol for controlling radio resources to another state associated with the protocol, or (ii) from a current cell to a new cell (). In response to the second message, the UE continues to apply the access control to the transmissions for the access category, for a remainder of the access control period ().

Applying access control in a communication device

A UE communicating in DC with an MN and an SN detects a master cell group (MCG) failure associated with the MN. In response to detecting the MCG failure, the UE performs an MCG recovery procedure by transmitting an MCG failure information message to the SN, receiving an MCG failure recovery message from the SN, and transmitting an MCG failure recovery complete message to the MN.

Controlling mobility between base stations of different types

This document describes methods and systems for common search space configuration and system information acquisition. As part of the methods and systems, a base station () wirelessly communicating with a user equipment () that is in an engaged mode determines () to configure a common search space through which the user equipment () can receive a system information block that is other than a system information block type 1 or a master information block. The base station () transmits a first message () that includes a set of common search space configuration parameters for the user equipment () to receive the other system information block. The base station () transmits (), in accordance with the set of common search space configuration parameters, a second message that includes the other system information block.

Common search space configuration and system information acquisition

A method for avoiding undesired message transmissions from a user device to a RAN is implemented in a user device. The method includes receiving (or), from the RAN, a first value of the barring factor, and determining (andorand), based on a first probability corresponding to the first value, that access barring applies to a message transmission. The method also includes suspending (or) the message transmission while running a first timer (or) and, after the first timer expires or stops, either (1) if the first value does not correspond to a maximum probability of the different probabilities, determining (or) that the access barring is alleviated, or (2) if the first value corresponds to the maximum probability, continuing to suspend (or) the message transmission.

Systems and methods for preventing undesired access barring alleviation

This document describes techniques and devices for handling an attempt to resume a wireless connection using a base station that supports a different core-network type. While in a current resource control state, such as an inactive state, a user equipment (UE)orselects a base stationwith a different core-network type than a previously selected base stationor. In some cases, this selected base stationdoes not support the current resource control state or does not enable the UEorto transition to a different resource control state, such as a connected state. Handling an attempt to resume a wireless connection using a base station that supports a different core-network type

This document describes techniques and devices for efficient handling of a resource control state change and multi-node connectivity. Instead of performing multiple radio resource control (RRC) procedures to change a resource control state of a user equipment (UE) and establish, modify, or release a connection with multi-node connectivity, the techniques described herein combine the multiple RRC procedures into a single RRC procedure that supports both a resource control state change and multi-node connectivity. In particular, a master node sends a resource control state and multi-node connectivity message that includes both state change information and multi-node connectivity information. With this single message, timing and power resources of the UE can be conserved and failures resulting from asynchronous communication of the state change information and the multi-node connectivity information can be avoided.

Efficient handling of a resource control state change and multi-node connectivity

This document describes methods and systems for common search space configuration and system information acquisition. As part of the methods and systems, a base station wirelessly communicating with a user equipment that is in an engaged mode determines to configure a common search space through which the user equipment can receive a system information block that is other than a system information block type 1 or a master information block. The base station transmits a first message that includes a set of common search space configuration parameters for the user equipment to receive the other system information block. The base station transmits, in accordance with the set of common search space configuration parameters, a second message that includes the other system information block.

This document describes techniques and apparatuses for handling Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) selection while user equipment is in an inactive mode at a radio resource control layer. In aspects, the UE performs a cell-selection procedure that selects a first cell that serves a first Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN). The UE establishes a radio connection to the first PLMN. The UE transitions from a connected mode at a radio resource control layer to an inactive mode at a radio resource control layer. After a period of time, the UE performs a cell-reselection procedure that selects a second cell that serves a second PLMN. The UE determines if the second PLMN is an equivalent PLMN to the first PLMN. If the second PLMN is an equivalent PLMN to the first PLMN, the UE sends an indication to a lower layer that triggers an action.

Public land mobile network selection by user equipment in an inactive mode at a radio resource control layer

This document describes techniques and apparatuses for releasing information to improve cell selection in different resource control states. To improve communication performance, a user equipment (UE)releases dedicated cell-selection information, which may not be appropriate as the UEmoves to different geographical locations and transitions to different resource control states. Different situations cause the UEto release the dedicated cell-selection information, including performing a cell-selection procedure in an inactive state that selects another cell that does not support the inactive state, processing a paging message, or transitioning from the inactive state to an idle state. By releasing the dedicated cell-selection information, the UEperforms a future cell-selection procedure without relying on the dedicated cell-selection information. As a result, the UEcan select an optimal cell for achieving a target communication performance in different resource control states
