A powertrain system for a vehicle includes an electric power source having a first motor configured to provide a first amount of torque to the vehicle and a second motor configured to provide a second amount of torque to the vehicle different from the first amount of torque. The system further includes one or more attachable electric power gear assemblies configured to couple the two or more motors to a propeller shaft for providing the torque to the vehicle. The system includes an electronic control unit coupled to the electric power source and configured to dynamically activate or deactivate each of the first or second motors based on one or more operating conditions of the vehicle. The first and second motors comprises at least one of a same number of poles or a same number of phases.

Powertrain system for electric and hybrid electric vehicles

The present invention provides a retrofit system for configuring a vehicle into a hybrid electric vehicle or electric vehicle. The system comprises an electric power source (EPS) comprising one or more motors to provide fail safe torque to the vehicle and harness braking energy for charging one or more batteries, one or more attachable electric power gear assemblies (EPGA) configured to couple the one or more motors to a propeller shaft for providing the torque to the vehicle, and an electronic control unit coupled to the electric power source (EPS) for dynamically controlling functioning of the one or more motors based on the running conditions to drive the vehicle. The system comprises of a motor controller to control functioning of one or more motors. The motor controller actuates one or more motors based on the torque and power required to drive the vehicle.

Retrofit system for converting a vehicle into one of a hybrid electric vehicle and electric vehicle

A method of providing assistance to an internal combustion engine for a vehicle using an electric motor coupled to the engine is provided. The method comprises predicting a driving range based on historical driving range data. The historical driving range data includes one or more distances that the vehicle was driven during one or more previous driving cycles. The method further comprises selectively operating the motor to provide assistance to the engine at predetermined operating conditions of the engine. The assistance provided to the engine at one or more of the predetermined operating conditions is determined based at least in part on the predicted driving range.

Motor assistance for a hybrid vehicle based on predicted driving range

A method of providing assistance for an internal combustion engine in providing driving power for a vehicle using an electric motor coupled to the engine is provided. The method comprises selectively operating the motor to provide assistance to the engine at predetermined operating conditions of the engine. The assistance provided to the engine at one or more of the predetermined operating conditions is determined based on one of a plurality of motor assistance profiles. The motor assistance profile upon which the assistance is determined is selected from among the plurality of motor assistance profiles based on an expected driving range provided by a user of the vehicle.

Motor assistance for a hybrid vehicle based on user input

A method of converting a vehicle having an internal combustion engine, a transmission, an alternator and a battery into a hybrid vehicle is disclosed. The method comprises installing an electric motor to the vehicle that is configured to assist the internal combustion engine in rotating a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine, installing an energy storage element configured to provide power to the electric motor, installing a motor control unit configured to control the amount of power delivered from the energy storage element to the electric motor and replacing an existing pulley on a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine with a new pulley configured to receive a first belt extending between the new pulley and an alternator pulley and a second belt extending between the new pulley and an electric motor pulley.

Method of converting vehicle into hybrid vehicle

The present invention relates to a modular power assisting system. In particular the present invention relates to a modular electric power assisting system that is adaptable to a vehicle/engine driven system so as to be operated/powered by electric system and/or its original power system. The synergistic combination of the motor system; motor control system and energy storage device coupled to the regenerative braking system of the present invention enables the power assisting system of the present invention to adapt to the vehicle/engine without involving substantial modifications in engine, power train, drive train and vehicle. The engine and electric motor exploits advantages of each of the power source based on the operating conditions of the vehicle/engine driven system by selectively responding to the engine's power demands so as to enhance fuel efficiency, reduce undesirable emissions and provide better drivability.

Power assisting system

A method of providing assistance to an internal combustion engine for a vehicle using an electric motor coupled to the engine is provided. The method comprises selectively operating the motor to provide assistance to the engine at predetermined operating conditions of the engine. During at least a portion of the selective operation, the motor is operated at a higher torque than a continuous operating torque rating for the motor. The electric motor is coupled to a crankshaft of the engine at a first side of the engine and a transmission is coupled to the crankshaft at a second side of the engine opposite the first side of the engine.
