A new group call request is received from a subscriber station at a rest channel repeater at a first network location. Corresponding new group call notifications are then transmitted to each of the other network locations over a wide area network to a current one of the repeaters acting as a rest channel repeater at each of the other network locations. Subsequently, an identity of a traffic channel repeater hosting the new call is received from each of the respective other network locations. An over-the-air notification is transmitted to other subscriber stations at the first network location identifying one of the first rest channel and another available channel as a channel for the new group call. Data received from the first subscriber station is then forwarded to each of the identified traffic channel repeaters at each of the other network locations via the wide area network.

Method and system for peer to peer wide area network communication among radio sites having dynamic rest channel base repeater stations

In a two-way radio frequency (RF) communications system having at least one repeater, a plurality of channels, and a plurality of subscriber units, a repeater hosts a first channel that is currently serving as a rest channel. The channel that is currently serving as the rest channel is monitored by subscriber units that are idle in the system. When the repeater determines to select a second channel to serve as the rest channel, it determines whether there is at least one eligible channel to serve as the rest channel. If there is at least one eligible channel in the system, the repeater may select the second channel to serve as the rest channel from one of the eligible channels.

Method for selecting a channel to be monitored by subscriber units that are idle in a communication system

A repeater receives an indication that a subscriber unit is initiating a call session on a channel, and indicates that the channel is busy. The repeater repeats a transmission from the subscriber unit and sets a timer for a first time upon determination that the transmission has ended. The timer is set for a second time if a new transmission is not received from a subscriber unit that is allowed to transmit on the channel prior to the expiration of the first time; otherwise, the repeater accepts a new transmission from a subscriber unit that is allowed to transmit on the channel if the new transmission is received prior to an expiration of the second time. Upon receipt of each new transmission received prior to the expiration of the second time, the repeater clears the timer, repeats the transmission on the channel, and resets the timer for the first time upon determination that the transmission has ended.

The present invention discloses, in a two-way radio frequency (RF) communications system having at least one repeater, a plurality of channels, and a plurality of subscriber units, a repeater receives a message that identifies a channel that is selected to serve as a rest channel for the system. The channel that is currently serving as the rest channel for the system is monitored by subscriber units that are idle in the system. If the repeater determines that the channel selected to serve as the rest channel is hosted by the repeater, the repeater periodically transmits an identity of the channel as the channel currently serving as the rest channel on at least the channel.

A method and system for dynamic call type detection for circuit and packet-switched networks. A network endpoint, such as a gateway, will receive an incoming signal and make an examination of the signal to detect characteristics of the signal. Upon detection of a characteristic of the signal, the gateway will generate a data packet, identifying the characteristic, and send the packet to a receiving network endpoint. The initial gateway will continue to examine the incoming signal and continue to send packets identifying characteristics of the signal as more characteristics are detected. The receiving gateway may then begin reproducing the signal in part by generating a signal that has the characteristics as indicated by the data packets. Once the initial gateway no longer receives the incoming signal, and determines that an event has occurred, the gateway will send a packet to the receiving gateway to inform it of the event.

Method and system for dynamic call type detection for circuit and packet switched networks

A collapsible and portable page holder device for holding the pages of a book, including a back support member for supporting a book thereon having a hinge about which two equally sized sections are foldable, a channel opening formed in each of the back support sections of the back support member, and an adjustable holding clip having upper and lower clip members mounted within the channel opening in each of the back support sections. The adjustable holding clip has means for biasing the clips to a closed gripping position for gripping and holding the pages of a book. Each adjustable holding clip has a guide member having a guide shaft attached to each of the lower clip members for slidably moving each holding clip within each of the channel openings and relative to the back support member to adjust the spacing of the holding clips for receiving different size books.
