A method includes transferring data between a mobile station for communicating over a mobile communications network and a server in the Internet having a connection to the mobile communications network. The transfer of data includes providing at least a portion of a page on the Internet in the form of code, the code including a telephone number of the mobile station as hidden information, receiving the code in the mobile station in a first user message where the first user message is a short message service message, and interpreting the code in the mobile station to cause the mobile station to display information corresponding to the page on the Internet on the mobile station, wherein the information to be displayed on the mobile station does not include the hidden information.

Communication network terminal supporting a plurality of applications

A data transmission method and apparatus for performing a data transmission between end terminals of a telecommunication network, where the data is transmitted from at least one of the end terminals using the first data bearer. Then, data transmission is switched from the first to the second data bearer, if a predetermined bearer need condition has been determined or in order to obtain a subscriber identity used for gathering charging data. The network service provided by the operator can be improved, since the bearer switching allows an increase of the overall speed of the data transmission, an adaptation of the bearer bandwidth to the data amount, and a provision of the subscriber identity. The first data bearer may be a USSD or SMS data bearer, and the second data bearer may be a circuit-switched data bearer or a GPRS bearer, or vice versa.

A digital mobile communication system is provided with a facility by means of which it can establish a connection to the Internet network () via an Internet access point (). In one embodiment the mobile communication network broadcasts messages giving recommended IAP settings to mobile stations.

Updating of internet access point settings in a mobile communication system

In the GSM and similar systems, USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) transfer takes place on a fast channel if a mobile station is involved in that call, and otherwise on a slow channel. The USSD transfer can be switched to the fast channel by determining the amount of data to be transmitted. If the amount of data to be transmitted is likely to exceed a predetermined threshold, and if the mobile station is not involved in a call, a call attempt is initiated for switching the USSD transfer to the fast channel.

Method for improving the performance of USSD transfer in a cellular communications system

A method for performing USSD transfer between a mobile station and a cellular communications network. The USSD transfer has a maximum data rate equal to the data rate of an associated control channel. The method comprises the following steps: 1) evaluating a set of factors in favor of the maximum data rate, for forming a totality of factors, the totality being at least partly independent of the existence of the associated channel prior to said evaluating; 2) comparing the totality of factors to a predetermined margin; and 3) performing the USSD transfer substantially at the maximum data rate in response to a positive result in said comparison, and otherwise at a lower data rate.

Speech/USSD interoperability mechanism

Internet service in a digital mobile communication network by means of short message service. The short message service center is connected to the Internet network and uses the HTML, HTTP, and TCP/IP Internet network protocols. Short messages are transferred between the service center and mobile stations. The user submits to the service center a short message containing an identifier of a WWW servicer via the Internet network, receives the WWW page and stores it. The relevant part, which maybe identified by a predetermined criterion, common to all subscribers, or based on a criterion received from the mobile station, such as a keyword, is separated from the WWW page and sent to the mobile station in a short message. The mobile station processes the received message and displays it to the user.
