Novel aviation fuel compositions contain a substantially positive or synergistic combination of an alkyl tertiary butyl ether, an aromatic amine and, optionally, a manganese component. The basefuel containing the additive combination may be a wide boiling range alkylate basefuel.

High octane unleaded aviation gasolines

A method for testing an unleaded aviation gasoline (Avgas) composition involves (a) running an aviation engine such as a Textron Lycoming IO-360 engine with an Avgas at maximum knocking conditions, (b) collecting pressure trace data of continuous engine cycles with pressure transducers attached to the cylinders, (c) filtering and transforming the data, and (d) determining the number of knocking cycles and intensity within a predetermined number of continuous engine cycles.

Method for testing unleaded aviation gasolines

A protective cage for provisional engagement with a pit valve casing during a transfer of a fluid such as a liquid fuel through the pit valve and into a transfer conductor. A framework protrudes above the valve casing and includes a plurality of force deflecting members which are fixed to a base plate thereby defining a deflector which avoids the inadvertent damage to the pit valve or to the transfer conductor's coupling.

Provisional protective means for pit valve casing

This invention relates to a shroud or flexible wall cover which is adapted to be placed onto the nacelle of an aircraft engine. The shroud is positioned to cover the nacelle discharge port through which hot, high velocity exhaust gases normally are discharged. The formation of a provisional closure across the exhaust gas discharge port precludes the entry of fumes and/or mist from inadvertently spilled fuel entering the discharge port and igniting when coming into contact with hot engine parts. The shroud is provisionally placed into operating position immediately prior to a transfer of fuel from a fueling vehicle into the wind tanks of the aircraft.
