An article sorter is made up of a web defined by a plurality of interconnected, laterally elongated, slats. An upper portion of the web defines a longitudinally extending conveying surface. Each of the slats has a generally planar upper surface forming a portion of the conveying surface. A plurality of pusher shoes travel laterally of the conveying surface to laterally displace articles on the conveying surface. A drive assembly is provided. The drive includes at least one sprocket and a motor. The motor is adapted to rotate the sprocket(s). The sprocket(s) engage the slats to propel the web.

Slat driven positive displacement sorter

A sortation system and method includes providing a sorter assembly and a slug-building assembly. Product is received by the sorter assembly and sorted to a series of sortation lanes. The slug-building assembly includes a plurality of supply lines supplying product for sorting by the sorter assembly. At least one of the supply lines includes an accumulation conveyor and a slug conveyor. Product is accumulated in slug portions at the accumulation conveyor. Slug portions are combined into product slugs at the slug conveyor. Product slugs are discharged from the slug conveyor for sorting by the sorter assembly.

High volume conveyor sortation system

An accumulation conveyor system and method of accumulating articles includes providing an accumulation assembly that is adapted to accumulating a plurality of articles into a slug of articles. Slugs of articles are discharged to a transport line which transports the slugs and accumulates the slugs as required. The accumulation assembly is made up of a slug forming section which forms slug portions and discharges slug portions into slugs. The accumulation assembly accumulates articles in zones and reduces gaps between articles in sequence from upstream gaps to downstream gaps.

Accumulating conveyor system

A conveyor roller or pulley includes an axle portion mountable to opposite sidewalls of a conveyor and a roller portion rotatable relative to said axle portion. The roller includes a braking device positioned at least partially within said roller portion and selectively operable to restrict rotation of said roller portion relative to said axle portion. The braking device may be biased to restrict rotation, such that the braking device restricts rotation when an actuator of the braking device is deactivated, and allows substantially unrestricted rotation when the actuator is activated. The actuator may be activated when a drive motor of the conveyor is activated to drive one of the rollers of the conveyor, and may be deactivated when the drive motor is deactivated. The conveyor may comprise a roller conveyor or a belted conveyor.

Conveyor roller with brake

A headrest includes a unidirectional clutch permitting adjustment of the headrest from a reference position to any desired selected position and resists motion in a rearward direction except upon release of the clutch. In one embodiment of the invention, a spring return mechanism is provided to automatically return the headrest to a reference position upon release of the clutch.
