A high frequency modular electrical connector assembly including contact/terminal members arranged in such a manner to reduce crosstalk during use. The connector assembly includes a dielectric housing having a receptacle and an insert assembly arranged therein. The insert assembly includes an insert housing and first, second and preferably third sets of contact/terminal members, each contact/terminal member including a contact portion situated in the receptacle, a terminal portion extending beyond the bottom surface of the insert housing and an intermediate portion interconnecting the contact portion and the terminal portion. The contact/terminal member(s) in each set are geometrically different than the contact/terminal members in the other set(s) and are arranged substantially parallel to one another. The insert housing has passageways in each of which a respective contact/terminal member is received. To reduce crosstalk, the contact/terminal members are arranged such that each contact/terminal member is different from any adjacent contact/terminal member(s).

High frequency electrical connector assembly such as a multi-port multi-level connector assembly

A high frequency, modular electrical connector assembly including contact/terminal members arranged in such a manner to reduce crosstalk during use. The connector assembly includes a dielectric housing having a receptacle and an insert assembly arranged therein. The insert assembly includes an insert housing and first, second and preferably third sets of contact/terminal members, each contact/terminal member including a contact portion situated in the receptacle, a terminal portion extending beyond the bottom surface of the insert housing and an intermediate portion interconnecting the contact portion and the terminal portion. The contact/terminal member(s) in each set are geometrically different than the contact/terminal members in the other set(s) and are arranged substantially parallel to one another. The insert housing has conduits in each of which a respective contact/terminal member is received. To reduce crosstalk, the conduits are arranged such that each contact/terminal member is different from any adjacent contact/terminal member(s).

A high frequency electrical connector assembly including a housing defining a plug-receiving receptacle having an entrance opening and contact/terminal members arranged in the housing. The contact/terminal members include at least one forward facing contact/terminal member having a forward facing contact situated in the receptacle and a non-contact portion including a terminal. The forward facing contact has a rearward end coupled to the terminal and a forward end which is closer to the entrance opening than the rearward end. The housing includes an outer housing part and an insert assembly insertable into the outer housing part to define the plug-receiving receptacle and including a securing insert for firmly securing the forward facing contact/terminal member(s) in the housing. The securing insert itself may be secured in connection with the housing to prevent movement thereof.

A modular jack connector mounted on a main printed circuit board and having a receptacle into which a modular plug of an electronic component is inserted. The connector includes a housing, a first set of contacts arranged in the housing each adapted to engage one of the contacts of the plug, a second set of contacts at least partially arranged in the housing and adapted to engaging the main printed circuit board, contact coupling circuit means for electrically coupling the first and second sets of contacts, a capacitor for providing impedance to high frequency noise and interference and a metallic shield at least partially surrounding the housing and connected to a grounding region on the main printed circuit board. In one embodiment, the capacitor is a flexible laminate assembly including first and second conductive sheet members and an intermediate insulative material. Further, the capacitor has a plurality of folded pleats including a first pleat arranged at one end of the laminate assembly and a second pleat arranged at an opposite end of the laminate assembly. The first conductive sheet member is electrically coupled at the first pleat to the contact coupling circuit means, and the second conductive sheet member is electrically coupled at the second pleat to the metallic shield to thereby ground the first set of contacts through the capacitor. The contact coupling circuit means may include toroidal coil pairs which function separately as either a differential mode filter or a common mode filter.
