Methods, computer program products, and computer systems for recovering data of scene are provided. The techniques include: obtaining, by at least one processor, data of a scene; re-sampling, by the at least one processor, the data of the scene to obtain re-sampled sensing data of the scene and a corresponding sensing matrix; and constructing, by the at least one processor, recovered data of the scene using the re-sampled sensing data of the scene and the corresponding sensing matrix. In one embodiment, the method includes enhancing occluded data of the scene to construct the recovered data of the scene, where the recovered data of the scene facilitates identification of the scene. In another embodiment, the method includes compressing original data of a scene, the compressing including sampling the original data of the scene to select the data of the scene.

Method and apparatus to recover scene data using re-sampling compressive sensing

A system and method to optimize a multiple-input multiple-output signal processing RF communication system that includes obtaining, by a processor, at the receiver, during spatial processing, metrics from the channel stream. The metrics include a spatial correlation metric representing spatial coupling between multiplexed streams in the channel stream, a signal-to-noise power ratio metric representing propagation losses encountered by the signal, and a cross polarization discrimination metric representing whether polarization modes can be processed as independent groups. The processor obtains these metrics based on obtaining geometric information related to the receiver and the transmitter. Predictive methods may be employed to determine expectations for some metrics in advance. The method includes applying a policy with at least one objective of the system, and based on at least one metric and the policy, applying at least one adaptation to at least one of: the receiver or, the transmitter.

Systems and methods for high-rate RF communications employing spatial multiplexing in line of sight environments

Multimode light detectors are provided, which combine a plurality of measurements of light to detect information, using a mode transformation device. The light may be light from one or more objects, and the mode transformation device may be configured to transform the light into many single mode light beams. Each measurement of the light may be a measurement of a corresponding single mode light beam. The multimode detectors may include one or more optical receivers, configured to mix one or more single mode light beams with one or more local oscillators, respectively. Methods are provided for detecting information of objects, including obtaining light from the objects, transforming the light into multiple single mode light beams, and collecting (and/or combining) measurements of the single mode light beams.

Devices and methods for multimode light detection

A high rate radio frequency (RF) link system and method for spatially multiplexing data transmission is presented. The system can comprise a common communications point characterized by a first collection of antennas having independent channels interconnected with a known latency connection to a central process location, such as with optical fiber; and a second similarly configured collective endpoint or set of endpoints wherein multi-path between the first collection and the second collection is negligible. Signal decorrelation between independent channels is achieved through a combination of spatial separation and signal processing. In one aspect, decorrelation is performed using near-maximum likelihood Multiple-Input Multiple-Output signal processing.

Systems for enhancing the sensitivity of detecting an optical signal using nonlinear optics and method of performing the same. In one embodiment, a single-photon detection system includes an optical amplifier realized in a waveguide, and a photodetector coupled to an output of the optical amplifier. A light detection and ranging system includes the optical amplifier coupled to an optical source and one photodetector. In another embodiment, a photodetection system includes a plurality of optical frequency converters, coupled to an optical source, that sequentially convert a wavelength of photons of the optical source to a final wavelength, and a single-photon photodetector coupled to the optical frequency converters to detect single photons produced by the optical source. In another embodiment, an optical sensor includes an optical pump, and a transducer including an optical ring cavity coupled to the optical pump and configured to utilize optical four-wave mixing to detect an external stimulus.

A directional notch filter for simultaneous transmit and receive of wideband signals comprises an antenna, an antenna match, a receiver, a power combiner, a first directional coupler, a second directional coupler and a shaping filter accepting a signal and producing a compensation signal as a replica of an antenna reflection transfer function, wherein the first and second directional couplers produce signals and portions of signals received by the antenna and sent to the receiver via the power combiner. The receiver can produce a receiver signal and the first directional coupler can produce a first signal as a portion of an overall signal received by the antenna, the first signal comprising at least reflection of a signal from the power amplifier and the second directional coupler samples a small portion of the receiver signal, said second directional coupler producing a second signal.

Directional notch filter for simultaneous transmit and receive of wideband signals

A system and method for optimizing an optical RF photonic link system is presented. The system comprises a modulator subsystem in which nonlinear response is compensated by an envelope precompensation method and employs an optical filter to suppress optical carriers and extract modulated sidebands, an optical amplifier, and an array of photodetectors, each having a plurality of pairs of diodes. The modulator subsystem performs optical filtering on the signal, the signal is amplified by the optical amplifier and sent to the array of photodetectors. The optical amplifier can be an erbium doped fiber amplifier, or a phase sensitive amplifier. The optical power can be delivered to each diode of the array of photodetectors via a photonic integrated circuit.

Method and apparatus for optimized analog RF optical links

Systems and methods for improved photonically-assisted RF filtering. Presently, processing of wide-band RF signals involves the use of multiple specialized equipment to isolate a region of interest from the spectrum. The present invention discloses the use of a modulation system to upconvert the RF signal onto the sideband of a light source such as a laser, an optical filter sub-system comprising a plurality of filtering units that function as combinations of IIR and FIR filters, and a resonant channelizing filter for noise reduction and rejection of undesired channels, and means for control and agility of a piecewise coherent optical filter. The resulting filtered RF signal may then be downconverted to the electrical domain for further signal processing.

Systems and methods for photonically assisted RF filtering

A system and method for selective wavelength interleaved filtering technique for analog to digital conversion (ADC) comprises a remote aperture for analog input, a modulator operable to transform the analog input into an initial optical signal, a photonic front end having high resolution optical filters operable to filter the optical signal into multiple subsequent optical signals and supply local oscillators for downconversion into electrical signals, a segmented subsystem having a plurality of ADCs, each operable to receive and convert one subsequent optical signal of the optical signals, and a memory buffer and process subsystem operable to reconstruct the converted subsequent optical signals into a digital representation of the analog input by executing reconstruction algorithms. Provision is made for compensation of distortions arising in the electrical to optical to electrical conversion process. The optical filters can include a self-registered filter wherein individual passbands are intrinsically aligned to one another.

System and method for selective wavelength interleaved filtered technique (SWIFT) ADC

A method for multiscale sampling for wide dynamic range electro-optic receivers is presented. The method comprises obtaining a signal, reproducing the signal into first and second signals, scaling one signal with respect to the other, modulating both signals with the same modulation function, and utilizing the resulting vector response function to invert the response of the link over a greater dynamic range than would otherwise be possible with a single instance of the modulated signal. The sealed modulation response may be obtained by splitting the signal into two polarizations and utilizing a modulator having different response for the two polarizations, or by utilizing two modulators.

Multiscale sampling for wide dynamic range electro-optic receivers

A network element for incorporating in nodes of a network that is a transparent, subwavelength networks. The element is configurable and adapted to support an arbitrary protocol, with protocol-specific monitoring features as well as protocol-independent add/drop capability. An arrangement that allows transmission of client signals with higher clock fidelity is achieved by developing a phases offset measure at an ingress node, communicating it to the egress node, and recovering the client's clock from the received data and from the received phase-offset information. The ability to recover the client's clock with high fidelity is enhanced by modified pointer processing in intermediate nodes of the network that the client's signal traverses. The pointer processing is modified to inject positive and negative justifications in excess of what is minimally necessary to insure proper transmission over a network that employs a protocol involving framing layer frames embedded in communication layer frames. Illustratively, the network protocol is an extended G.709 Digital Wrapper protocol, arranged to employ frames of 15240 columns by four rows.

Apparatus for implementing transparent subwavelength networks

A data packet transport arrangement includes a tag-based packet multiplexer and a tag-based packet demultiplexer, that utilizes an identification tag to identify packets to each of the N input channels so as to provide a logical transport channel for each of the N channels through the packet transport arrangement. The data transport arrangement thereby allows aggregating multiple communications channels into a higher bit rate link to increase bandwidth efficiency, without compromising the underlying channelized, guaranteed-bandwidth nature of the individual communication channels.
