An exemplary fluid heating method includes, among other things, operating an engine of a vehicle to heat an engine fluid during a drive cycle if the vehicle is in a fluid maintenance mode, and heating the fluid prior to the drive cycle if the vehicle is in the fluid maintenance mode and the vehicle is electrically coupled to a grid power source. An exemplary fluid heating assembly includes, among other things, an engine of an electrified vehicle, and a fluid heater that is activated to heat a fluid of the engine in response to the electrified vehicle being in a fluid maintenance mode when electrically coupled to a grid power source.

A vehicle includes an engine and a controller programmed to, responsive to an estimated oil dilution level of the engine exceeding a first threshold, issue commands such that regenerative braking is inhibited to increase a temperature of the engine, and responsive to the estimated oil dilution level falling below the first threshold, discontinue issuing the commands.

Methods and systems are provided for extending an engine-off period of a hybrid vehicle while reducing engine cold-start emissions. During an engine pull-up to meet operator demand, the engine is held at a higher power for a longer duration to aggressively heat the exhaust catalyst. In one example approach, a method comprises, in response to a refuel request, actuating a fuel tank isolation valve to vent a fuel tank for refueling; and, in response to a pressure in the fuel tank below a threshold pressure after a predetermined time duration, discontinuing actuation of the fuel tank isolation valve to seal the fuel tank.

An oil strainer assembly is used to filter oil in an internal combustion engine of an automotive vehicle. The oil strainer assembly includes a strainer element and a housing. The housing has a first shell and a second shell. The housing has an inlet formed in one of the first and second shells and an inlet formed in the other of the first and second shells. The strainer element is disposed between the first shell and the second shell for filtering debris from oil passing between the inlet and the outlet of the housing. Each of the first and second shells has an outer wall. The first shell having a first flange for retaining the outer wall of the second shell. The first shell further having an outwardly extending tab for retaining a portion of the outer wall of the second shell opposite the first flange. The tab being movable away from the outer wall of the second shell to allow removal of the outer wall of the second shell from the first flange of the first shell along a generally radial direction.

Removable shield in an engine oil strainer

An oil pan is provided below a crankcase of an engine. The oil pan has an oil reservoir in its upper case. An oil discharge pipe is located within the oil reservoir, the oil discharge pipe extending from an oil separator of a PCV system. The oil reservoir protrudes inward of an inner wall surface of a lower case. The oil reservoir has an oil drain hole on a bottom surface at its inwardly protruding portion. The oil reservoir communicates with a lower chamber through the oil drain hole.
