A method for forming an absorbent core. The method includes the steps of forming and compressing an absorbent core, followed by passing the absorbent core through a subsequent nip between two rolls. At least one of the rolls has a surface including an elastic material, such that the hard-spot number of the absorbent core is reduced. Also, a device for forming absorbent cores as well as absorbent cores produced using the method.

Method for forming an absorbent core

An absorbent article includes at least one liquid-permeable layer material () and an absorbent structure (), the absorbent structure () having the ability to expand on wetting, which entails that the absorbent structure () displays a first volume in dry condition and a second volume in completely expanded wet condition, the second volume being greater than the first volume. The liquid-permeable layer material () encloses the absorbent structure () so that the absorbent structure () is prevented from reaching complete expansion during wetting.

Absorbent article comprising a liquid-permeable material layer

An absorbent layer structure for use as an absorbent body in an absorbent article includes a first surface layer having cellulose fluff pulp, a second surface layer having cellulose fluff pulp, and an inner layer arranged between the surface layers having a mixture of cellulose fluff pulp and 5-90% by weight superabsorbent material, the cellulose fluff pulp in the surface layers having a mat strength which is lower than the mat strength in the inner layer by at least 1 N measured at a weight per unit area of 300 g/mand a bulk of 4.5 cm/g or less and preferably a mat strength which is lower than the mat strength in the inner layer by at least 2 N measured at a weight per unit area of 300 g/mand a bulk of 4.5 cm/g or less.

Absorbent layer structure

An absorbent article such as a diaper, an incontinence guard, a sanitary napkin or the like, includes a liquid permeable upper surface and an absorbent structure, which in the longitudinal direction exhibits a crotch portion and two end portions, wherein the absorbent structure has an acquisition layer and at least one first storage layer. The first storage layer has at least 50 percent by weight of a super absorbent material calculated on the total weight of the first storage layer. The material of the first storage layer in a dry condition has a density exceeding 0.4 g/cm. Further, the first storage layer at least in the crotch portion of the absorbent structure has apertures or recesses.

Absorbent article comprising an absorbent structure

An absorbent article includes an absorbent core () including a fluid storage member (), a fluid distribution layer () and a fluid receiving layer (). The distribution layer () is disposed to extend in the crotch portion () and in at least a substantial portion of one of the waist portions (or) of the article and is absent in at least a substantial part of the opposite waist portion of the article so as to promote fluid flow from the crotch portion () towards the one waist portion (or). A fluid barrier () is arranged at or in close proximity to one transverse end edge of the fluid distribution layer (), located in or adjacent the crotch portion () of the article, the fluid barrier () extending through at least a substantial part of the thickness of the layer.

Absorbent article

The invention relates to an absorbent article, such as a diaper, an incontinence guard, a sanitary napkin or the like, including a liquid-permeable upper surface and an absorbent structure exhibiting a planar extension. The absorbent structure includes an acquisition layer and at least one storage layer. The acquisition layer has a plurality of fragments of a liquid-absorbing, open-celled, polyacrylate-based foam material, and each fragment exhibits a planar extension having a transversal direction, a longitudinal direction, and a thickness direction extending perpendicularly to the planar extension. The width in the transversal direction of each fragment in a dry condition does not exceed 10 millimeters, and the total area of the fragments in the planar extension is lower than the area of the absorbent structure in the planar extension.

An absorbent article has two side edges (), two end edges (), a liquid-permeable surface layer (), a liquid-tight surface layer (), and an absorption body () arranged between the surface layers (). The absorption body () includes at least one intermediate storage part () arranged along a side edge (), in direct contact with a liquid transfer part (). The liquid transfer part () has a higher liquid affinity than the intermediate storage layer, so the liquid transfer layer drains from the intermediate storage part () better than the intermediate storage part () drains liquid from the liquid transfer part ().

Absorbent article with improved liquid-handling ability

An absorbent article such as a diaper or an incontinence protector, comprising at least one liquid storage region ( ) with high absorption capacity and at least one wicking layer ( ) which overlaps at least a substantial part of the liquid storage region and which has greater liquid dispersion ability than the storage region. The wicking layer ( ) is intended to disperse liquid collected locally in the article over the liquid storage region ( ). The aim of the invention is to improve liquid dispersion in absorbent articles. The invention is characterized in that liquid-impermeable portions ( ) are arranged at separate places in the article along sections of overlapping parts of the wicking layer ( ) and the liquid storage region ( ) in order to prevent the transfer of liquid over said parts from the wicking layer to the storage region. The liquid impermeable portions ( ) are placed in such a way that liquid from at least one initial accumulation place in connection with wetting of the article is first dispersed in the wicking layer ( ) along said portions separated from the liquid storage region ( ) and thereafter is dispersed further in the liquid storage region at a distance from said accumulation place.

Absorbent article with improved liquid dispersion

An absorbent article with a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction, a center line ( ) running in the longitudinal direction, a center line running in the transverse direction, two side edges ( ) running in the longitudinal direction, two end edges ( ) running in the transverse direction, and including a liquid-permeable surface layer ( ), a liquid-tight surface layer ( ), a side barrier pocket ( ) arranged along each side edge ( ) and having an opening directed towards the longitudinal center line, and an absorption body ( ) enclosed between the surface layers ( ). The absorption body ( ) includes at least one intermediate storage part ( ) and a liquid transfer part ( ). The intermediate storage part ( ) is arranged along a side edge ( ), in direct contact with the liquid transfer part ( ), and inside a side barrier pocket ( ). The transport of liquid between the material in the intermediate storage part ( ) and the liquid transfer part ( ) is such that the liquid transfer part ( ) drains liquid from the intermediate storage part ( ).

An absorbent structure for use in an absorbent article such as a diaper, an incontinence guard, a sanitary napkin, or the like wherein the absorbent structure has two different material types, which are in direct or indirect contact with each other so that liquid can be transferred between the material types. The first material type is constituted by material which swells when absorbing body fluid and the second material type is constituted by material which collapses when absorbing body fluid, wherein the volume increase in the first material type is essentially equal to the volume reduction in the second material type when the absorbent structure is saturated with liquid, whereby the absorbent structure has substantially the same volume both in a wet and in a dry state.

Absorbent structure for use in an absorbent article

An absorbent article comprising a liquid-permeable casing sheet ( ), a liquid-impermeable casing sheet ( ) and an absorbent body ( ) enclosed between the two casing sheets. The absorbent body ( ) includes a liquid acquisition space ( ) which consists of at least one cavity or one region of lower density than the density of an acquisition layer ( ) located in said absorbent body ( ) adjacent the space ( ) and essentially in the same plane thereas. The acquisition layer ( ) includes a material which when wetted increases in size in the thickness direction of the article (the z-direction). The article is mainly characterized in that the material in the acquisition layer ( ) exhibits relatively low expansion in the plane of the article (the xy-direction) when wetted, such that the volume of the liquid-acquisition space ( ) will increase by at least 100%, preferably by at least 200%, more preferably by at least 400% and most preferably by 900% when wetted.
