A trunked communication system having reassignable talk-groups. By having the talk-groups reassignable, the trunked communication system can accommodate a large number of user groups without adding to the control resource traffic congestion.

Trunked talk-group assignment method

Disclosed is a signalling system wherein a private call initiating trunked subscriber enters a private ID number on an entry means. The trunked subscriber unit decodes the entered number and forms the ID code required to request a channel. The central controller receives the request and encodes an appropriate channel grant for a trunked private call. In another aspect of the present invention, the called subscriber unit may decode and display the ID of the calling subscriber.

Signalling system for trunked private calls

An optimized method of bus contention comprising monitoring the bus for an idle or busy bus condition and either attempting an asynchronous bus access if the bus is idle or synchronously attempting a prioritized retry after a busy bus condition is sensed, after a bus access collision is sensed, and upon initial power-up, synchronized to the current message completion. The prioritization comprises a constant time delay plus a bit-time delay proportional to said accessing device's address identification.
