A method for manufacturing an engine block is disclosed. In embodiments, the method includes forming an expansion hole in a block body of the engine block that encircles an engine block bore at a head face of the engine block. The method also includes placing an insert into the expansion hole, the insert including an insert body. The method further includes placing a reaction material between the insert and the block body. The method yet further includes forming an insert bond layer between the insert and block body using the reaction material. The method still further includes forming an insert bore through the insert body.

Exothermic bonding for cylinder block inserts

A method for repairing a cylinder liner includes: placing a cylinder liner having a first inner diameter and a first outer diameter into a cavity of a confinement, the cavity including a cavity inner diameter that is substantially the same as the first outer diameter of the cylinder liner; heating the cylinder liner to a temperature at which the cylinder liner undergoes plastic deformation, causing the first inner diameter of the cylinder liner to decrease; and cooling the cylinder liner. The cooled cylinder liner has a second inner diameter that is less than the first inner diameter. An apparatus for repairing a cylinder liner includes a confinement having a cavity and a fluid passageway for controlling the temperature of the confinement, and a heating block for heating the cylinder liner when the cylinder liner is inserted into the cavity.

Method and apparatus for repairing cylinder liners

A cylinder liner assembly is disclosed for use with an engine. The cylinder liner assembly may include a liner having a hollow generally cylindrical body extending from a top end to a bottom end along a longitudinal axis, and an internal annular cuff ring groove formed at the top end of the liner. An internal surface of the internal cuff ring groove may include a metal spray coating having a thermal conductivity that is less than a thermal conductivity of a base material of the liner to act as a thermal insulating layer. A cuff ring may be disposed within the internal cuff ring groove at the top end of the liner in contact with the metal spray coating. A seal may be disposed around an outer circumferential surface of the liner approximately in axial alignment with an internal axial end of the internal cuff ring groove.

Cylinder liner assembly having a thermal barrier coating

A venting plug assembly for sealing a coolant channel and venting air therefrom is disclosed. The coolant channel defines an open portion to receive the venting plug assembly. The venting plug assembly includes an outer sealing element with an annular portion configured for sealing engagement with the open portion of the coolant channel. The venting assembly further includes an inner sealing element configured for sealing engagement with the annular portion of the outer sealing element. The inner sealing element is configured to move relative to the annular portion of the outer sealing element to allow air to vent from the coolant channel through the outer sealing element.

Venting plug for engine coolant filling

A method of remanufacturing a rocker arm having a body defining a socket portion is disclosed. The method includes machining the socket portion to remove a worn surface and form a seat configured to receive an insert member therein. The method further includes disposing the insert member within the seat and coupling the insert member to the seat.
