Provided are a water-soluble triarylphosphine for a palladium catalyst, which has high selectivity in a telomerization reaction and is easily recovered with efficiency, an ammonium salt thereof, and a method for efficiently producing the same. Specifically, provided are bis(6-methyl-3-sulphophenyl)(2-methylphenyl)phosphine; a bis(6-methyl-3-sulphonatophenyl)(2-methylphenyl)phosphine diammonium salt obtained by reacting the phosphine with a tertiary amine having a total of 3 to 27 carbon atoms in groups bonded to one nitrogen atom; and a method for producing the same.

A catalyst and system for an internal combustion engine exhaust gas purification includes a first catalyst component region (a) having a catalyst component layer containing Rh at a concentration of 0.1 to 3.0 g/L at a length of 3 to 30 mm on an upstream side, a second catalyst component region (b) having a catalyst component layer containing Pd at a concentration of 1.0 to 20.0 g/L at a length of 10 to 100 mm on a downstream side, and a third catalyst region (c) containing rhodium at a concentration of 0.05 to 1.0 g/L and an oxygen storage material at a concentration of 30 to 150 g/L at a length of 25 to 150 mm on a monolithic support. The catalyst suppresses the formation and discharge of NO from the exhaust gas with a small amount of a noble metal from the time of cold starting.

Provided is an industrially advantageous method for producing a dialdehyde having a production ratio of linear dialdehydes to branched dialdehydes of 80/20 to 90/10, with an amount of rhodium to be used that is lower than that in the related art. Specifically, provided is a method for producing a dialdehyde, including reacting a linear olefinic compound having each of an ethylenic double bond and an aldehyde group on each end of the molecule with carbon monoxide and hydrogen, in the presence of a rhodium catalyst comprised of a bisphosphite represented by General Formula (I) and a rhodium compound, in which the reaction pressure of a mixed gas formed of carbon monoxide and hydrogen is decreased as the reaction proceeds, wherein R represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or an alkoxy group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and W represents an alkylene group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, a cycloalkylene group having 5 to 18 carbon atoms, or an alkylene-arylene group having 7 to 11 carbon atoms, and a rhodium compound.

Method for producing dialdehyde

Provided is a simple and industrially advantageous method for producing 2,7-octadien-1-ol, in which an expensive palladium catalyst is recovered in high efficiency and the reaction rate per atom of palladium is enhanced. Specifically, provided is a method for producing 2,7-octadien-1-ol by subjecting butadiene and water to a telomerization in the presence of a palladium catalyst containing a water-soluble triarylphosphine having two or more sulfonate groups in the molecule and a palladium compound, a tertiary amine, and carbon dioxide, including a step of mixing the telomerization solution obtained by the telomerization with an organic solvent having a dielectric constant at 25&#xb0; C. of 2 to 18, followed by carrying out phase separation in the presence of carbon dioxide, thereby obtaining 2,7-octadien-1-ol from an organic phase while recovering an aqueous phase including the palladium catalyst. By this production method, the selectivity for 2,7-octadien-1-ol is enhanced.
