According to one embodiment, a battery includes an external container, an electrode group, and a sealing plate. The electrode group includes a positive electrode and a negative electrode wound in a flat shape with an insulating layer interposed therebetween. Thicknesses Tof the positive and negative electrodes are each from 0.03 mm to 0.08 mm. A first direction is orthogonal to a winding axis direction of the electrode group. A second direction is parallel to the winding axis direction. The thicknesses Tof each electrode, a thickness Tof the electrode group in the third direction orthogonal to the first and second directions, and an innermost circumferential height Hof the electrode group in the first direction satisfy 0.02≤(T×T)/H≤0.04.

A secondary battery according to an embodiment includes an exterior material including an opening portion and including a bottom, a wound electrode group housed in the exterior material in order for an insertion direction to be perpendicular to a winding axis, and a lid attached to the opening portion of the exterior material and including at least a plate-like member, a positive electrode terminal, and a negative electrode terminal. When a minimum distance between the lid and the wound electrode group is A, 0.5 mm&#x3c;A&#x3c;2.0 mm is satisfied.

According to an embodiment, an electrode is provided. The electrode group includes a stack. The stack includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode or negative electrodes, and separator. Each negative electrode includes a negative electrode current collector and a negative electrode layer provided on the negative electrode current collector. The electrode group satisfies following relational formulae (I) to (III): 10&#x2264;a/b&#x2264;16 (I); 0.7&#x2264;D/E&#x2264;1.4 (II); E&#x2264;85 (III). Here, the a[mm] is a thickness of the stack. The b[mm] is a thickness of the negative electrode current collector, or is a total thickness of the negative electrode current collectors. The D[&#x3bc;m] is a thickness of the positive electrode. The E[&#x3bc;m] is a thickness of the negative electrode.

According to one embodiment, a battery includes a flat-shaped electrode group, a package member and a terminal section. The package member includes a stainless steel-made first package having a flange at an opening and a stainless steel-made second package. The electrode group is stored in a space formed by welding the flange of the first package to the second package. The terminal section includes a through-hole that is open to the first package, a ring-shaped rising portion that extends from a periphery of the through-hole toward an inside of the package member, a ring-shaped member that is arranged on an outer surface of the rising portion, an insulation gasket, and an external terminal. The external terminal is fixed to the first package by caulking.

A secondary battery according to one embodiment includes, an electrode group which is a cathode and an anode wound with a separator being interposed therebetween, a first lead having a first welding surface, a second lead having a second welding surface which is bent with respect to a winding axial direction of the electrode group, a first current collecting tab which is extended from one end of the electrode group on the winding axial direction, and welded onto the first welding surface of the first lead, a second current collecting tab which is extended from the other end of the electrode group on the winding axial direction, and welded onto the second welding surface of the second lead, a first terminal connected to the first lead, and a second terminal connected to the second lead.

Secondary battery and a method of manufacturing secondary battery

According to one embodiment, a battery includes an electrode group, a tab, a conductive nipping member, a case, a lid and a lead. The conductive nipping member includes first and second nipping sections. The first and second nipping sections divide the tab into two bundles in which portions of the tab are laminated onto each other in a thickness direction of the electrode group. The lead includes a connecting section connected electrically to a terminal, and current collecting sections which are two sections branched from the connecting section and sandwiching the nipping member.

A battery disclosed herein includes a container member housing an electrode body and a lead, a gasket, an external terminal, and a restraining member. The container member includes a terminal-connecting part having a thickness of 0.3 mm or less. The terminal-connecting part includes a through hole including a rising part. The gasket includes a hollow shaft inserted into the rising part. The external terminal includes a terminal shaft. The terminal shaft includes a diameter-reduction part. The restraining member restrains at least a part of the diameter-reduction part of the terminal shaft via the diameter-reduction part of the rising part and the shaft of the gasket. The inclination angle of the rising part is larger than the inclination angle of the terminal shaft.

According to one embodiment, there is provided a battery including a case, a lid, an electrode group, an intermediate lead, and a terminal lead. The electrode group has an end face opposed to the lid and includes current collector tabs extending from the end face. The intermediate lead contains an electrode group joint and a lead joint. The terminal lead is electrically connected to the lid and the lead joint of the intermediate lead. Each of the current collector tabs has a tip portion whose width in the direction perpendicular to the extending direction is narrow. The tip portion thereof is electrically connected to the electrode group joint.

In general, according to one embodiment, there is provided a battery. This battery includes a container, a lid, a gas-relief vent, an electrode group, an intermediate lead, and a terminal lead. The gas-relief vent is provided in the lid. The intermediate lead includes a first lead-joint part, an electrode-group-joint part, and a leg part. The leg part connects the first lead-joint part and the electrode-group-joint part to each other. The first lead-joint part and the electrode-group-joint part are located on planes different from each other.

According to one embodiment, a battery includes a case, an electrode group, a lid, an external terminal and an insulating member. The external terminal includes a head section and an axial section extended from the head section. The axial section is caulked and fixed into a through hole in the lid.
