Provided are an illumination device and a display apparatus capable of reducing generation of an interference pattern, while achieving downsizing and enhancing light use efficiency. An illumination device includes: a light source section that includes a laser light source; an optical device disposed on a light path through which laser light from the laser light source travels; an optical member that outputs illumination light; and a driving section that displaces a relative position between the optical device and the optical member to vary at least one of an incidence position and an incidence angle, in an incidence surface of the optical member, of the laser light.

Illumination device and display apparatus

An illumination unit includes one or more light sources each including a solid-state light-emitting device having a light emission region configured of one or more light-emission spots, one or more traveling-direction angle conversion device each converting a traveling-direction-angle of light, and an integrator including a first fly-eye lens having cells which receive light from the traveling-direction angle conversion device and a second fly-eye lens having cells which receive light from the first fly-eye lens, the integrator uniformalizing illumination distribution in a predetermined illumination area. An optical system configured with the traveling-direction angle conversion device and the first and second fly-eye lenses has an optical magnification which allows each of light source images to have a size not exceeding a size of the cell in the second fly-eye lens, the light source images being formed on the second fly-eye lens by the respective cells in the first fly-eye lens.

Illumination unit, projection type display unit, and direct view type display unit

An illuminator and a display capable of achieving miniaturization are provided with use of a plurality of light sources emitting light with two or more kinds of wavelengths. In the light source unit, a red-color laserR, a green-color laserG, a blue-color laserB, a microlens section, and a microprismare integrated on a base material. Each laser beam emitted from each of the laser light sources is transmitted through the microlens section, and then, comes into the microprism. In the microprism, optical path conversion is performed to shorten the distance between the optical paths of the incident light beams (to allow the optical axes of the incident light beams to be closer to each other). Due to the above-described integration, the optical paths of the laser beams are allowed to be synthesized using the microscopic-scaled microlens section and microprisms.

Light source unit, illuminator, and display

Provided are an illumination unit and a display capable of achieving size reduction in a case where a plurality types of light sources emitting light with various different wavelengths are in use. An optical-path conversion memberis provided for performing optical-path conversion to light (red laser light Lr, green laser light Lg, and blue laser light Lg) coming from three types of light sources (a red laserR, a green laserG, and a blue laserB) in a light source unitin such a manner that, compared with an angle formed by center rays in the light, an angle formed by center rays in outgoing light becomes much smaller. Such optical-path conversion is performed without using a large-scale optical system (optical members).

Illumination unit and display

An illumination device includes: a light source section having plural kinds of light sources, in which the light sources emits light beams having different wavelengths; a parallelizing optical system parallelizing each of the light beams entered from the light sources, and allowing each of the parallelized light beams to exit therefrom; a light path unifying optical system unifying the parallelized light beams exited from the parallelizing optical system into a single light path; an expanding optical system expanding a beam diameter of each of the parallelized light beams unified into the single light path, and allowing each of the expanded and parallelized light beams to exit therefrom; and a uniformizing optical system uniformizing an in-plane intensity distribution in each of the expanded and parallelized light beams exited from the expanding optical system.
