Provided are a light absorbing material-containing film which contains quantum dots or the like and is capable of suppressing in-plane luminance unevenness and chromaticity unevenness; and a backlight unit. The light absorbing material-containing film includes a light absorbing material-containing layer that has a plurality of cylindrical or polygonal prism-shaped resin portions discretely disposed and a light absorption region contain light absorbing bodies and formed between the plurality of resin portions; a first substrate film that is laminated on one main surface of the light absorbing material-containing layer; and a second substrate film laminated on the other main surface of the light absorbing material-containing layer, where the light absorption region contains at least one phosphor that serves as the light absorbing body, and a binder.

Light absorbing body-containing film and backlight unit

Wavelength conversion member, light emitting device, and liquid crystal display device

A wavelength conversion member suppresses peeling at an edge at cutting; and is used with a backlight unit and a liquid crystal display device. The wavelength conversion member includes a first substrate, a wavelength conversion layer, and a second substrate, in which each of the first and second substrates includes a support, a barrier layer, and an organic layer, where each of the barrier layers contains at least aluminum and phosphorus, each of the organic layers is formed of a composition containing a polymer A having a glass transition temperature of 50&#xb0; C. or lower and a polymer B having an acryloyl or methacryloyl group in a molecule thereof, and the wavelength conversion layer is a layer in which at least one selected from the group consisting of a quantum dot, a phosphor particle, and a phosphor coloring agent is dispersed in a matrix made of an acrylic resin.

Wavelength conversion member, backlight unit, and liquid crystal display device

Provided is an organic electroluminescent display device that further suppresses reflection of external light when viewed in an oblique direction; a phase difference film; and a circularly polarizing plate. This display device has an organic electroluminescent display panel, and a circularly polarizing plate arranged on the display panel, in which the circularly polarizing plate has a polarizer and a phase difference film, the phase difference film has, from a side of the polarizer, a negative A-plate, and a positive A-plate, the in-plane retardation of the negative A-plate at a wavelength of 550 nm is more than 50 nm and less than 90 nm, and the in-plane retardation of the positive A-plate at a wavelength of 550 nm is 100 to 200 nm, and the angle formed by the in-plane slow axis of the negative A-plate and the in-plane slow axis of the positive A-plate is 45&#xb0;&#xb1;10&#xb0;.

Phosphor-containing film and backlight unit

Provided is a thin wavelength conversion film in which a phosphor can be uniformly dispersed and deterioration of the phosphor caused by oxygen can also be prevented; and a backlight unit including the wavelength conversion film. The wavelength conversion film includes a wavelength conversion layer and a substrate, in which the wavelength conversion layer includes a binder and particles including a phosphor, an oxygen permeability coefficient of the binder is 0.01 (cc&#xb7;mm)/(m&#xb7;atm) or lower, an oxygen permeability coefficient of the matrix is 10 to 1000 (cc&#xb7;mm)/(m&#xb7;day&#xb7;atm), and a content of the particles in the wavelength conversion layer is 3 to 30 vol %.

Wavelength conversion film and backlight unit

A phosphor-containing film contains a phosphor such as a quantum dot and is capable of suppressing deterioration of phosphor even where the film is formed into a laminated structure; and a backlight unit including the phosphor-containing film as a wavelength converting member. The film includes: a phosphor-containing layer in which a plurality of fluorescent regions, each of which contains a phosphor that deteriorates through reaction with oxygen when exposed to oxygen, are discretely arranged and a resin layer having impermeability to oxygen is arranged among the plurality of the discretely arranged fluorescent regions; and a first substrate film and a second substrate film, which are respectively laminated on both main surfaces of the phosphor-containing layer, in which the resin layer has a Knoop hardness of 115 N/mmto 285 N/mm, a creep recovery rate of 22% or less, and an elastic recovery rate of 60% or more.

A phosphor-containing film capable of suppressing deterioration of phosphor and capable of suppressing generation of luminescent spots and the reduction in luminance due to a defect of the resin layer. The film includes: a phosphor-containing layer having a resin layer which has impermeability to oxygen and is provided with a plurality of discretely arranged concave portions, and a plurality of fluorescent regions, each of which is arranged in the concave portion of the resin layer and contains a phosphor that deteriorates through a reaction with oxygen when exposed to oxygen; and a first substrate film and a second substrate film, which are respectively laminated on one main surface and the other main surface of the phosphor-containing layer, in which the fluorescent regions contain a binder and quantum dots serving as the phosphor.

A phosphor-containing film suppresses deterioration of a phosphor and generation of luminescent spots and the reduction in luminance, and a backlight unit. The phosphor-containing film includes: a phosphor-containing layer having a resin layer which has oxygen impermeability and discrete concave portions, and fluorescent regions arranged in the concave portions, and a first substrate film laminated on one surface of the phosphor-containing layer and a second substrate film laminated on the opposing surface, in which the fluorescent regions contain the phosphor that deteriorates through a reaction with oxygen, and a binder, the first substrate film includes a support film and an inorganic layer provided on a surface of the support film on a side facing the phosphor-containing layer, the resin layer has a modulus of elasticity of 0.5 to 10 GPa, and a thickness of the bottom of the concave portion of the resin layer is 0.1 to 20 &#x3bc;m.

Provided is a wavelength conversion film that suppresses a deterioration of quantum dots by oxygen and is capable of suppressing a decrease in brightness. The wavelength conversion film includes a wavelength conversion layer and auxiliary layers sandwiching the wavelength conversion layer, in which the wavelength conversion layer has polyvinyl alcohol and cured substance particles of a (meth)acrylate compound including wavelength conversion particles, and an oxygen permeability of the auxiliary layer is 1.0&#xd7;10to 1.0&#xd7;10cc/(m&#xb7;day&#xb7;atm).

Wavelength conversion film

An object of the present invention is to provide a backlight film that uses a wavelength conversion film used for a liquid crystal display or the like, has satisfactory durability, and is able to emit light without color unevenness. The object is achieved by including a wavelength conversion film having a wavelength conversion layer and a gas barrier film that sandwich the wavelength conversion layer; and at least one reflective layer provided on one main surface of the wavelength conversion film and causing a film thickness distribution of the reflective layer to be &#xb1;5% or less.

Backlight film

Provided is a wavelength conversion film-forming composition which forms a wavelength conversion film by being applied to a substrate to form a coating film and curing the coating film, the wavelength conversion film-forming composition including at least quantum dots, a volatile component, and a binder that is soluble in the volatile component and/or a binder precursor that is soluble in or compatible with the volatile component, in which the wavelength conversion film-forming composition is gellable in the presence of the volatile component.

A wavelength conversion member, is provided with a wavelength conversion layer that includes quantum dots and is interposed between two barrier layers. The wavelength conversion member includes a light scattering layer that is provided between the barrier layers and the wavelength conversion layer, in which one of the barrier layers closest to the light scattering layer is formed of an inorganic component, the light scattering layer includes a binder, which is formed of either a compound having a hydrogen bonding functional group and a polymerizable group in a molecule or an organic metal coupling agent, and scattering particles having a diameter R of 0.2 to 5 &#x3bc;m, a thickness d of the light scattering layer is 0.2 to 4 &#x3bc;m, a thickness D of the wavelength conversion layer is 10 to 100 &#x3bc;m, and a ratio of d to D is 0.2% to 10%.

Wavelength conversion member, backlight unit, image display device, and method of manufacturing wavelength conversion member

Provided is a wavelength conversion member including: a wavelength conversion layer including at least one kind of quantum dots that are excited by excitation light to emit fluorescence and are dispersed in an organic matrix; and a barrier layer that is provided adjacent to at least one main surface of the wavelength conversion layer and includes silicon nitride and/or silicon oxynitride as a major component, in which the organic matrix is obtained by curing a curable composition including at least an alicyclic epoxy compound and includes a chemical structure A which is bonded to silicon nitride and/or silicon oxynitride as a major component of the barrier layer.

The wavelength conversion laminated film includes a laminate which has a wavelength conversion layer containing a phosphor and a gas barrier layer laminated on both the main surfaces of the wavelength conversion layer and an end face sealing layer which covers at least end faces of the wavelength conversion layer among end faces of the laminate, in which the end face sealing layer includes, from the side of the end faces of the laminate, a first metal layer coming into contact with the end faces, a resin layer, and a second metal layer in this order.

Wavelength conversion laminated film

Provided are a phosphor-containing capable of suppressing deterioration of phosphors and can be manufactured with high efficiency and a backlight unit. Specifically, provided is a phosphor-containing film, including a first substrate film; and a phosphor-containing layer at which a plurality of regions containing phosphors, which, if exposed to oxygen, deteriorate by reacting with the oxygen, are discretely disposed on the first substrate film, and at which a resin layer having an impermeability to oxygen is disposed between the discretely disposed regions containing phosphors, in which a width S of the resin layer between the regions containing phosphors is 0.01&#x2264;S&#x3c;0.5 mm, and wherein a ratio of a volume Vp of the regions containing phosphors, to a sum of the volume Vp and a volume Vb of the resin layer in the phosphor-containing layer, is 0.1&#x2264;Vp/(Vp+Vb)&#x3c;0.9.
