A temperature estimating apparatus, which is provided for a backlight having a plurality of light source blocks each having one light source or a plurality of light sources so that light emission of the light source of each of the light source blocks can be regulated independently, comprises an acquiring unit which acquires a luminance of the light source for each of the light source blocks; a temperature sensor which measures a temperature of at least any one of an internal and external temperature of a casing of the image display apparatus having the backlight; and an estimating unit which estimates a temperature of the light source for each of the light source blocks on the basis of a measured value obtained by the temperature sensor and a luminance value of the light source of each of the light source blocks acquired by the acquiring unit.

A flat display apparatus has a flat display panel; a frame that is installed on a rear face side of the display panel; a cover that covers at least a rear face side of the frame; and a high-voltage power supply that applies high voltage to the display panel. The high-voltage power supply has a plurality of cases, each of which encloses one or more transformers and rectifier circuits, and obtains high voltage by connecting the plurality of cases in series, and the plurality of cases are arranged in a space created between the frame and the cover so as to be disposed on a plane in parallel with a screen of the display panel.

A display control apparatus having a plurality of different display modes for displaying a plurality of types of image signals corresponding to different resolutions and dot clocks, includes a discrimination circuit for displaying the display mode of the currently displayed image signal, and a selection circuit for selecting on-screen display data to be displayed on the basis of the display mode discriminated by the discrimination circuit. In addition, an input circuit inputs the on-screen display data selected by the selection circuit in place of the currently displayed image data, and an output circuit outputs the on-screen display data input by the input circuit in the display mode of the image signal.

An image is displayed in an optimum state in accordance with the state of a display. For this purpose, an FLCD interface mounted in an information processing apparatus and an FLCD for actually displaying an image are connected through a data transfer bus for transferring image data to be displayed and a serial communication line for performing communications between them. When the FLCD detects a change in its own state, this information is supplied to a CPU of the FLCD interface through the serial communication line. An instruction for changing, e.g., the operating mode is also transmitted from the FLCD interface to the FLCD through the serial communication line.
