An optical disk device which quickly detects that a transparent disk is loaded is provided. When an optical disk is loaded, a drive controller of an optical disk device drives a spindle motor and checks existence of an optical disk based on a driving result. In addition, the drive controller drives an optical pickup to apply a focus control, to detect whether or not focusing is possible. When it is determined from the driving result that there is an optical disk and that focus is not possible, the drive controller judges that the optical disk (D) is a transparent disk.

Optical disk device and optical disk processing system having optical disk device

An optical disk device which highly precisely positions a disk tray in an ejection position is provided. A controller of an optical disk device drives the disk tray from a storage position toward an exposed position. When a position immediately before the ejection position is detected by a detecting switch, the velocity is reduced, to allow the disk tray to contact a mechanical stopper, for positioning. The controller measures a movement time to the position immediately before the ejection position, and adjusts the drive voltage to increase or decrease the drive voltage for contact with the mechanical stopper according to the measured time.

An optical disk drive capable of reproducing data even when warpage is present in an optical disk. A system controller of the optical disk drive reproduces data by setting a maximum speed in accordance with the type of an optical disk, an amount of side-to-side runout, or the like. In the meantime, when a read error arises as a result of trial reproduction being performed at an outer radius of the disk at startup, warpage is determined to be present in the optical disk, and a limitation on the maximum speed is raised. The rotational speed is set to allowable maximum speed of the optical disk drive, and warpage is corrected by means of centrifugal force. When reproduction becomes impracticable for reasons of meandering of a tack, or the like, during the course of reproduction of data, the rotational speed is decreased, to thus perform a retry.

Optical disk drive

An optical disk processing system having a recording unit and a printing unit is provided. The optical disk processing system comprises a printing unit and a recording unit. A drive controller of the recording unit rotationally drives a loaded optical disk (D) and detects whether or not a rotational speed is reduced during acceleration. When the rotational speed is reduced, it is judged that a stick-slip has occurred and loading of a plurality of the optical disks (D) is detected.

An optical disk is driven with a low torque and then with a high torque. Based on reaching times until target rotational speeds are reached when the optical disk is driven with the low torque and the high torque, a type of the optical disk is judged. Disk drive and information processing system having the same

An optical disk drive capable of reproducing data even when defects, such as flaws or stains, are present in the disk. A system controller of an optical disk drive reproduces data by setting the maximum speed in accordance with the type of an optical disk, an amount of side-to-side runout, and the like. When reproduction of data becomes impracticable for reasons of meandering of a track, or the like, in the middle of reproduction of data, the rotational speed is decreased, and a retry is performed. However, when reproduction of data becomes impracticable for reasons of flaws or stains, the rotational speed is reversely increased, and a retry is performed.

An optical disk drive is provided with a microcomputer for calculating the number of tracks on an optical disk traversed by an optical pickup in a seek operation and the number of steps to be taken in the seek operation. The number of steps determined in accordance with a signal output by a rotation detector of a feed motor is incremented or decremented depending on a direction in which the optical pickup is translated, and is preset in a counter. In each step of a seek operation, the optical pickup is driven by the feed motor in accordance with the count of the counter.

Optical disk pickup control apparatus and method providing stabilized

A first servo unit controls a rotational speed of an optical disc using a reproduced signal obtained as a result of reading a signal previously written on the optical disc. A second servo unit controls rotation of the optical disc using a rotation detection signal obtained as a result of measuring a rotational speed of a disc motor which drives the optical disc. A determining unit determines that the second servo unit is to perform a disc-rotation-speed control operation when it is determined that a disc-rotation-speed control operation performed by the first servo unit is not possible. The determining unit determines that the first servo unit is to perform the disc-rotation-speed control operation when the rotation speed of the optical disc is a predetermined one. The optical disc has a plurality of recording regions, the plurality of recording regions having different recording modes for recording signals therein such that a polarity of the reproduced signal relevant in a tracking control operation is different in response to a change of a currently scanned recording region among the plurality of recording regions. The determining unit further changes the polarity of the reproduced signal relevant in the tracking control operation when it is determined that the disc-rotation-speed control operation performed by the first servo unit is not possible.
