In an image forming apparatus, in a case of duplex printing, a sheet is transported toward an image forming device along a sheet transport route, the image forming device forms an image on a first face, which is one of faces of the sheet, a reverse transport device reverses the front and back faces of the sheet and transports the sheet to a position upstream of a show-through reading device in a sheet transport direction, and the show-through reading device reads a second face, which is another face of the sheet. Then the show-through detector decides whether a show-through has occurred, on a basis of the image that has been read.

An image forming system includes an image forming apparatus and an insertion device. The image forming apparatus includes an image forming device, a transport device, and a control device. The control device acts as a controller and an executer. The controller causes the image forming device to execute a printing job, and causes the insertion device to insert the interleaving paper in a printed material at an insertion start timing designated by the printing job. The executer executes calibration at an execution start timing set in advance, and sets a time point that a predetermined time has elapsed after a previous calibration to the execution start timing in advance. The executer starts to execute the calibration at the insertion start timing, when a predetermined condition is satisfied.

An image formation system includes an image forming apparatus and an inserter. The image forming apparatus includes an image forming device, a conveyance device, and a control device. The control device functions as a controller and an executor. The controller allows the inserter to insert an interleaving paper between sheets of printed material at an insertion start timing specified by a print job. When the plurality of calibrations include a second calibration capable of being completed within an interleaving paper insertion time required to insert the interleaving paper or a third calibration capable of being completed within a total time of the interleaving paper insertion time and a predetermined additional time, the executor executes the second calibration or the third calibration in time with the insertion start timing.

A document feeder includes a lift plate, a storage section, and an operation display section. The lift plate lifts a document sheaf up to a feed position. The storage section stores a first travel amount. The first travel amount is a travel amount of the lift plate necessary for the lift plate to cause the document sheaf to arrive at the feed position in a situation in which the document sheaf has a maximum permitted thickness. When a second travel amount is less than the first travel amount, the operation display section informs that the number of the document sheets in the document sheaf exceeds a maximum sheet number. The second travel amount is a travel amount of the lift plate taken to cause the topmost part of the document sheaf to arrive at the feed position.
