The present invention provides a conductive lubricant composition, characterized in that the composition contains a lubricating base oil (A) other than a silicone oil, and a non-metallic antistatic agent (B), and exhibits a kinematic viscosity of 25 mm/s or less at 40&#xb0; C., a viscosity index of 100 or higher, a flash point of 150&#xb0; C. or higher, and a volume resistivity of 1&#xd7;10&#x3a9;&#xb7;cm or less at 25&#xb0; C. The invention also provides a bearing oil formed from the lubricant composition.

Conductive lubricant composition

The invention provides a lube base oil other than silicone oil having a kinematic viscosity of 12 mm/s or below at 40&#xb0; C., exhibiting, in Noack test (250&#xb0; C., 1 hr), an evaporation loss of 30 mass % or below and/or a flash point of 200&#xb0; C. or higher, and exhibiting an aniline point of 60&#xb0; C. or higher. There is also provides a lubricating oil composition comprising the lube base oil mixed with at least one additive selected from the group consisting of an antioxidant, a viscosity index improver, a detergent dispersant, a friction reducing agent, a metal inactivator, a pour point depressant, an abrasion resisting agent, a defoamer, and an extreme-pressure additive. The lube base oil and the lubricating oil composition realize reduction of evaporation loss despite being of low viscosity and excellent compatibility with organic materials.

A process for producing a polymer of an &agr;-olefin which comprises polymerizing an &agr;-olefin having at least 4 carbon atoms in the presence of a catalyst for producing polymers of olefins which comprises (A) a specific metal compound and (B) at least one compound selected from (b-1) an organoaluminum oxy compound and (b-2) an ionic compound. The polymer of an &agr;-olefin is useful as a component of lubricant.

A process for producing a polymer of an &agr;-olefin. The process includes polymerizing one or more &agr;-olefins having at least 4 carbon atoms in the presence of a catalyst for producing polymers of olefins. The catalyst contains (A) a specific metal compound and (B) either or both of (b-1) an organoaluminum oxy compound and (b-2) an ionic compound. The polymer of an &agr;-olefin is useful as a lubricant component.

A method of production of polyvinyl ether compound by which the polyvinyl ether compound having a desired degree of polymerization is produced reliably, safely and efficiently and a novel polyvinyl ether compound useful as lubricating oil for compression-type refrigerators, electric insulation oil and the like are disclosed. The method of production of the present invention is a method of producing a polyvinyl ether compound which comprises polymerizing a vinyl ether compound in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst and a specific acetal or a method of producing a polyvinyl ether compound which comprises forming an acetal by reaction of a vinyl ether compound with a specific alcohol in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst, then adding the vinyl ether compound to the acetal and polymerizing the vinyl ether compound. The polyvinyl ether compound of the present invention is homopolymer or a copolymer of an alkyl vinyl ether comprising the constituting unit expressed by the general formula: ##STR1## (R.sup.15 : an alkyl group of C.sub.1 .about.C.sub.3) and having weight average molecular weight of 300 to 1200 and one end having a specific structure.

A method of production of an ether compound from an acetal compound or a ketal compound which is excellent in conversion and selectivity and does not cause corrosion of apparatuses and a novel useful polyvinyl ether compound as lubricating oil for compression-type refrigerators, electric insulation oil and the like are disclosed. The method of production of the present invention comprises reaction of an acetal compound or a ketal compound with hydrogen in the presence of a solid catalyst having acidic property and hydrogenation ability to produce the corresponding ether compound. The polyvinyl ether compound of the present invention comprises the constituting unit expressed by the general formula: ##STR1## (characters in the general formula are the same as those described in the specification), contains none of unsaturated bond, acetal structure and aldehyde structure in the molecule and has weight average molecular weight in the range of 300 to 3000.

A method of production of an ether compound from an acetal compound or a ketal compound which is excellent in conversion and selectivity and does not cause corrosion of apparatuses and a novel useful polyvinyl ether compound as lubricating oil for compression-type refrigerators, electric insulation oil and the like are disclosed. The method of production of the present invention comprises reaction of an acetal compound or a ketal compound with hydrogen in the presence of a solid catalyst having acidic property and hydrogenation ability to produce the corresponding ether compound.

Process of producting ether compound

A lubricating oil for compression-type refrigerators which comprises as the main component thereof a polyvinyl ether compound having excellent compatibility with a hydrofluorocarbon or a hydrochlorofluorocarbon, such as 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane and the like, which can be used as the refrigerant to replace compounds causing environmental pollution, such as dichlorofluoroethane and the like, and having an excellent lubricating property is disclosed. The lubricating oil for compression-type refrigerators comprises as the main component thereof a polyvinyl ether compound having the constituting units expressed by the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 are H or a hydrocarbon group of C.sub.1.about.8, R.sup.4 is a bivalent hydrocarbon group of C.sub.2.about.10, R.sup.5 is a hydrocarbon group of C.sub.1.about.10 and m is 0.about.10.
