A partition is formed by the process including a step for providing a sheet-like partition material that covers a display area and outside thereof on the surface of the substrate, a step for providing a mask for patterning that covers the display area and the outside thereof, so that a pattern of the portion arranged outside of the display area of the mask is a grid-like pattern, a step for patterning the partition material covered partially with the mask by a sandblasting process, and a step for baking the partition material after the patterning.

A full color three electrode surface discharge type plasma display device that has fine image elements and is large and has a bright display. The three primary color luminescent areas are arranged in the extending direction of the display electrode pairs in a successive manner and an image element is composed by the three unit luminescent areas defined by these three luminescent areas and address electrodes intersecting these three luminescent areas. Further, phosphors are coated not only on a substrate but also on the side walls of the barriers and on address electrodes. The manufacturing processes and operation methods of the above constructions are also disclosed.

Full color surface discharge type plasma display device

The present invention provides a fluorescent layer forming apparatus for applying a fluorescent material paste into a recess defined between barrier ribs formed on a substrate for formation of a fluorescent layer in a plasma display panel production process. The apparatus comprises: a nozzle for ejecting the fluorescent material paste; and a plurality of fine attachments provided at one end of the nozzle with distal end portions thereof being arranged in convergent relation. The fluorescent material paste is ejected along the plurality of fine attachments thereby to be applied into the recess without formation of a clot. Thus, the fluorescent layer can accurately be formed in the intended recess between the barrier ribs without adhesion of the fluorescent material paste onto the top edges of the barrier ribs.

Fluorescent layer forming apparatus

A matrix display panel of first and second substrates having respective main surfaces in parallel and opposed relationship has parallel address electrodes and respective continuous phosphor stripes arranged within corresponding elongated cavities on the main surface of the first substrate, extending in a first direction. Display electrodes on the main surface of the second substrate extend in a second, transverse direction and cross the address electrodes and respective phosphor stripes, each display electrode defining a display line of pixels. A driving system drives the panel in accordance with color image data defining successive color images to be displayed in respective, successive image frames, the color image data of each frame defining respective relative brightness gradation levels and comprising a plurality of subframes wherein lines are concurrently activated in each subframe and each subframe includes an addressing period for addressing a pixel by selectively applying a write pulse to each selected one of the pixels, the write pulse forming a memory medium in a selected one of all the pixels, a display period for lighting said addressed pixel by a concurrent application of sustain pulses to all the pixels, each subframe being allocated with a predetermined number of the sustain pulses so as to weight a gradation to said respective subframe, wherein a gradation of visual brightness of the lit pixel is determined by selectively operating the subframe for each of the pixels for each frame.

A method of formimg barrier ribs for a plasma display panel including the steps of: roughening a barrier rib formation surface of a substrate; forming a barrier rib material layer on the roughened barrier rib formation surface; and forming, on the barrier rib material layer, a mask having a pattern corresponding to the barrier ribs to be formed. In addition, forming the ribs includes partially removing the barrier rib material layer by blasting an abrasive against the barrier rib material layer to form the barrier ribs below the mask. Removing the mask reveals barrier ribs for partitioning a discharge space formed on the substrate.
