A recognition apparatus is provided which includes an input section that receives image information from a front camera and a rear camera, and a calculation section that performs a forward recognition process that is a recognition process targeting the image information from the front camera received by the input section and a rearward recognition process that is a recognition process targeting the image information from the rear camera received by the input section. The calculation section includes an acquisition section that acquires first information representing whether an own vehicle is in a state of moving forward or a state of moving rearward and second information representing a traveling condition of the own vehicle, and a process selection section that selects processes to be performed as the forward recognition process and the rearward recognition process, based on the first and second information acquired by the acquisition section.

Recognition apparatus

A travel lane marking probability calculating unit calculates a travel lane marking probability of each of travel lane marking candidates based on a calculation condition. A travel lane marking recognizing unit recognizes, as a travel lane marking, a travel lane marking candidate having a travel lane marking probability that is a threshold value or higher, among the travel lane marking candidates. A lane change detecting unit detects that an own vehicle is in the midst of a lane change. When the own vehicle is in the midst of a lane change, a condition changing unit changes the calculation condition to allow the travel lane marking probability to be more easily increased compared to when the own vehicle is not in the midst of a lane change, or changes the threshold value to be lower than that when the own vehicle is not in the midst of a lane change.

Travel lane marking recognition apparatus

An apparatus for detecting a vehicle running in a blind spot detects, with a predetermined accuracy, a first target position of a target which is present in a first detection area that extends obliquely rearward of the vehicle, detects, with an accuracy lower than the predetermined accuracy, a second target position related to a target which is present in a second detection area adjacent to the first detection area; calculates a first estimated position that corresponds to a subsequent position of the target that has been detected by the detection section as the first target position; and adopts the first estimated position as a position of the target when the first estimated position is included in a predetermined range centering on the second target position, adopts the second target position as a position of the target when the first estimated position is outside the predetermined range.

Method and apparatus for detecting vehicle running in blind spot, and method and apparatus for giving warning in changing cruising lane

A relative position detection device is used for a traveling system that allows a first and second vehicles to travel such that the first vehicle precedes and the second vehicle follows the first vehicle. The detecting device includes a sensor pair of a first and second sensors and an arithmetic unit. The first and second sensors are located at the same height on the right and left end portions of the front surface of the second vehicle. The first and second sensors emits transmission waves from their located positions in their front directions and receives their reflected waves. The arithmetic unit detects a direction of deviation between the first and second vehicles in the right and left direction on the basis of a difference between a first intensity of the reflected wave received by the first sensor and a second intensity of the reflected waves received by the second sensor.

Relative position detection device for vehicle

A driving assistance apparatus mounted to a vehicle is disclosed. The apparatus determines whether an amount of change in tire wheel speed of each tire wheel of the vehicle exceeds a threshold. The apparatus specifies a tire wheel crossing order, which is an order in which the tire wheels of the vehicle cross over a level difference between a road and a parking lot when the vehicle crosses over the level difference. The apparatus determines whether or not the vehicle has crossed over the level difference between the road and the parking lot, based on whether a threshold-exceeding order is identical to the specified tire wheel crossing order. The threshold-exceeding order is an order in which the amounts of change in the tire wheel speed of the respective tire wheels exceed the threshold.

Navigation system

In a mobile telephone, a voice call arrival and an electronic mail arrival are notified to a user by respectively different sounds. Such sounds are selected according to user's preference from plural sounds including sound patterns and melodies stored in a memory. To confirm the presently selected sounds, a single frame simultaneously displaying both sounds is displayed on a display panel. The user is able to change the selected sounds to another sounds by inputting instructions from a keypad, using the same frame showing both of the presently selected sounds.

A communication terminal having a display capable of scrolling a text message at variable speeds to thereby enhance message readability. A display of 6 full-size characters&times;3 lines for displaying a character message is provided on the portable telephone. Tactile sensors for changing scroll display speed are provided on the sides of the portable telephone. The top of a long text message is paused for two seconds, and then vertically scrolled on the display. While the message is scrolled at a speed of 1 dot per 20 ms during normal operation, the display scrolling speed is changed to 1 dot per 60 ms when the tactile sensor is manipulated. The message is paused for 0.7 seconds every time one line of the message has completed scrolling. When the end of the message is reached, it is displayed for 1 second.
