A friction plate for a wet-type multiplate clutch provided with a core plate and friction linings fixed on opposite sides of the core plate, respectively. Each of the friction linings is formed such that at a section thereof located on a side radially inner than a radial center line thereof, the friction lining has a thickness that gradually increases from an inner circumferential portion of the section toward an outer circumferential portion of the section.

Friction plate for wet-type multiplate clutch

In a lockup clutch assembly for use in a torque converter, a friction lining attached to one of a clutch piston and a front cover of the torque converter is divided into an outer-circumference-side friction lining and an inner-circumference-side friction lining. The outer-circumference-side friction lining contains as a filler diatomaceous earth in a higher proportion than the inner-circumference-side friction lining.

Lockup clutch assembly

A multiple disc clutch apparatus, comprises a plurality of externally splined annular friction plates, to one side surface only of each externally splined annular friction plate being fixed a friction material, and each externally splined annular friction plate being formed with engagement teeth at an outer periphery, a plurality of internally splined annular friction plates, to one side surface only of each internally splined annular friction plate being fixed a friction material, and each internally splined annular friction plate being formed with engagement teeth at an inner periphery. The externally splined friction plate and the internally splined friction plate are alternately arranged in a direction in which the frictional materials are not overlapped each other. An annular externally splined separator plate provided with engagement teeth on the outer peripheral surface thereof is interposed between a frictional material bonding surface of the internally splined friction plate and the externally splined friction plate. An internally splined annular separator plate provided with engagement teeth on the inner peripheral surface thereof is interposed between a frictional material bonding surface of the externally splined friction plate and the internally splined friction plate.

Multiple disc clutch apparatus

In the starting clutch, an electrical pump or an engine pump is omitted and a substitutive pump mechanism is obtained with a simple construction thereby to circulate lubricating oil within the starting clutch. There is provided a starting clutch in which lubricating oil supplied form a drive shaft side is circulated within the clutch and input side elements and output side elements are tightened by an axial load to transmit a power and wherein a non-electrically operated pump mechanism is provided within the starting clutch.

Starting clutch

A starting clutch includes a planetary mechanism; a first clutch for outputting a torque to an outer diameter portion of the planetary mechanism; a second clutch for outputting the torque to an intermediate portion of the planetary mechanism; and a lock mechanism for locking a reactive force from an inner diameter portion of the planetary mechanism.

Starting clutch and method of controlling the same

The present invention provides a starting clutch in which an input side element and an output side element are joined together by applying an axial load thereby to transmit a power, which clutch comprises an urging device for always providing the axial load, and a releasing device for releasing the input side element and the output side element from the axial load.

Starting clutch and method for controlling same

Described is a viscous damper for a hydraulic power transmission with a lockup clutch. The viscous damper is composed of at least one blade mounted on at least one element of the hydraulic power transmission so that said at least one blade is located in an oil filled in said hydraulic power transmission and controls occurrence of self-excited vibrations. Preferably, plural blades are mounted on a wall of at least one of mutually opposing two elements of the hydraulic transmission, said wall of said at least one element being locate opposite a wall of the other element.

Viscous damper for hydraulic power transmission

A torque converter having a lockup mechanism makes it possible to positively and forcibly suppress the frictional heat and others generated on the frictional surfaces of the lockup clutch and its counterpart while the lockup clutch is in operation, particularly in a slipping state. Hence, the life of the lockup clutch or that of the torque converter as a whole is prolonged. In this torque converter having the lockup mechanism, a hydraulic control mechanism is provided for maintaining the difference of pressure substantially at a constant level and changing the flow rate of a fluid to be supplied to the frictional surface of the lockup clutch in order to control the slipping state of the lockup clutch. Oil grooves are cut on the frictional member of the lockup clutch.

Torque converter with a lockup mechanism

A frictional engagement apparatus which is small in size, high in torque, and long in endurance life and includes driven and driving plates. A frictional material is provided on one surface of each of the driven and driving plates, while a ceramic thin film composed of IV.sub.B, V.sub.B, or VI.sub.B family elements, such as titanium, in the periodic table of elements, Si, Al, and carbides, nitrides and oxides thereof, is formed on the other surface. The ceramic thin film includes a ceramic thin film intermediate layer formed on a surface of the respective plate, and a ceramic thin film layer formed on the intermediate layer.

Frictional engagement apparatus

A wet frictional material comprises a fiber base material such as natural pulp fibers or organic synthetic fibers, a filler such as diatomaceous earth or cashew resin, a friction adjustment agent, thermosetting synthetic resin, and activated carbon fibers so that the wet frictional material is high in friction coefficient and superior in heat resistance.
