A weft insertion apparatus for inserting a weft yarn in a picking direction into a main picking nozzle of a picking apparatus of a loom, which nozzle has at least one individual nozzle, and the loom further having at least one measuring and storing device with a winding yarn guide. The insertion apparatus has an air current generator for generating an air current in the picking direction inside the at least one winding yarn guide, and a yarn suction device disposed at a position offset from the axis of the main picking nozzle and opposite an exit of the winding yarn guide positioned at a predetermined rotary position in the at least one measuring and storing device. It furthermore has a yarn conveying member for engaging a weft yarn extending between the at least one measuring and storing device and the yarn suction device and guiding the weft yarn thus engaged to the inlet end of the at least one individual nozzle of the main picking nozzle.

Weft nozzle rethreading apparatus

A yarn package changing method and an apparatus for carrying out the same, for use in combination with a loom which receives the weft yarn from a yarn package. The yarn package changing method carries out automatic yarn package changing operation through steps of removing an empty bobbin set in a yarn package changing position on a yarn package stand, by a yarn package transporting device, supplying a new yarn package to the yarn package stand by the yarn package transporting device, holding the leading end of the new yarn package at a predetermined position by a leading end positioning device; and setting the new yarn package in a feeding position on the yarn package stand. The apparatus includes a yarn package stand capable of holding a yarn package in a feeding position to feed the weft yarn to an automatic weft yarn threading device, a yarn package transporting device capable of automatically mounting a new yarn package on and removing a used yarn package from the yarn package stand, and a leading in positioning device for holding the leading end of a new yarn package mounted on the yarn package stand at a predetermined position, disposed opposite the automatic weft yarn threading device.

Automatic weft yarn package changing system

A new weft yarn is supplied to a predetermined position in case when the weft yarn in a control unit, particularly in a loom, is broken. Conventionally, the supply of the new weft yarn is effected by a weaver. The present invention provides a yarn guide device for positioning, holding, and transferring a yarn to a predetermined position. The yarn in then drawn inside of a guide tube located in a predetermined position, and thereafter the yarn is automatically guided to a required device such as a measuring and storing device for the weft yarn.

In a fluid jet loom, almost all the faulty picks are attributable to defects in the quality of the weft yarn. The present invention detects matters for evaluating the physical properties of the weft yarn or matters for evaluating the result of the picking operation during the picking operation, discriminates the quality of the yarn package on the basis of data obtained through the detection, and automatically changes the yarn package for a new yarn package when it is decided that the yarn package feeding the weft yarn at present is defective.

Method of discriminating and change a yarn package

A weft storage device has a drum around which a weft yarn is wound by a rotatable yarn guide, weft yarn withdrawal from the drum being controlled by a movable engaging pin. When the weft yarn breaks, any yarn remaining on the drum is cut off and the scraps are withdrawn by a suction arrangement. The yarn guide is moved to an angular position near the suction arrangement so an end of the yarn is held by the suction arrangement, and then to another angular position. A guide part then engages the yarn between the suction arrangement and yarn guide and moves it to the inlet of an injection nozzle, the air flow in the nozzle then threading the yarn into the nozzle. The engaging pin is then actuated to hold the yarn on the storage drum, and the yarn guide then winds a predetermined number of turns of the yarn onto the drum.
