Further the write control unit generates a write cycle reference signal having a cycle corresponding to writing resolution, counts a clock by a predetermined count value, generates a write cycle signal by delaying the write cycle reference signal by a time period, generates a data request signal to request transmission of one line of the image data to a controller unit based on the write cycle signal, and stores the one line of the image data transmitted from the controller unit.

An image forming apparatus includes: a request signal generating unit that generates a predetermined timing signal and transmits a request signal for a specified number of times for requesting line-by-line image data during a time interval at which the timing signal is generated; and a memory control unit that sequentially saves, in a memory unit, line-by-line image data transmitted in response to the request signal and reads line-by-line image data saved in the memory unit to transmit the line-by-line image data to a drive control unit. Upon receiving a predetermined increase request, the request signal generating unit shifts a generation timing of the timing signal so that, during the time interval, the request signal can be transmitted for an increased number of times than the specified number of times, and gradually shortens the timing signal by a predetermined shortening time period.

A novel image processing system includes a pixel position indicator and a pixel inserting unit. The pixel position indicator is configured to indicate insertion positions in the image data. The pixel inserting unit is configured to enlarge a size of the image data by inserting an additional pixel at each of the insertion positions and accordingly shifting the original pixels in a given direction. The additional pixel has a value lower than a given threshold. Each insertion position is at an approximate center of an area formed of pixels having values higher than the given threshold.
