An apparatus for controlling an internal combustion engine is provided. An engine includes a compression release mechanism and a fuel injection valve. The compression release mechanism variably controls the opening degree of a valve member, and thereby connects the combustion chamber of the engine with at least one of the intake passage and the exhaust passage in order to release in-cylinder pressure during at least the compression stroke. A controller controls the fuel injection valve to execute coasting with the fuel cut off in which the fuel is cut off under a predetermined condition, and while executing coasting with the fuel cut off, controls the compression release mechanism to increase the opening degree of the valve member of the compression release mechanism as the speed of the engine is higher.

Apparatus for controlling internal combustion engine

A fuel injection valve includes: a needle valve including a seat portion on a tip side thereof; a nozzle body including a seat surface on which the seat portion is placed, and a swirl stabilization chamber on a downstream side of the seat surface, the nozzle body having an injection hole formed so as to have an inlet in the swirl stabilization chamber; a swirl flow generating portion having swirl grooves configured to give a swirling component to fuel to be introduced into the swirl stabilization chamber; and a fuel collision portion provided in a tip portion of the needle valve, the fuel collision portion being configured such that, in a state where the needle valve is opened, the fuel collision portion intersects with a virtual surface extended toward the injection hole from the seat surface included in the nozzle body. This allows dead fuel to be retained in the swirl stabilization chamber and to be introduced into the injection hole in a state where a swirling component has been given to the dead fuel from fuel having the swirling component.

Fuel injection valve

A fuel injection valve includes: a needle valve with a seat surface at a distal end; a nozzle body with a seat section on which the seat surface rests and with an injection opening disposed downstream of the seat section; and a swirl flow generating section with a spiral groove for causing fuel injected via the injection opening to swirl. The seat surface includes a first contact point. The first contact point contacts a second contact point included in the seat section during valve closing. A line segment that is drawn by connecting the first contact point and the second contact point during valve opening intersects a virtual straight line passing a bottom of a first groove section that appears the most downstream side of a cross section of the swirl flow generating portion in a plane including a central axis of the needle valve and a bottom of a second groove section that appears one step upstream side of the first groove portion. Thus, the fuel that is contracted as it passes through the spiral groove can avoid collision with the needle valve, so that a decrease in a flow velocity of the fuel as it swirls through the spiral groove is suppressed.

Fuel injection valve, and fuel injection apparatus provided with the same

Test liquid () including thermosetting resin is injected from an injection valve (). Light (L) is irradiated to a spray () of the test liquid () injected from the injection valve () as a treatment for producing a hardening effect to the thermosetting resin. Liquid drops in the spray () are hardened and collected as particles. Spray characteristics such as a particle size distribution of the injection valve or the like are analyzed by using the collected particles.

A fuel injection device is equipped with a fuel injection valve that is mounted in an engine body and injects fuel containing air bubbles, and void fraction adjustment means that changes a void fraction of the fuel that is to be injected from the fuel injection valve. The void ratio adjustment means increases the fuel pressure of the fuel to be injected from the fuel injection valve when an increase of the void fraction is requested. The void fraction adjustment means adjusts the void fraction of the fuel by changing temperature of the fuel to be injected from the fuel injection valve. By appropriately controlling the void fraction, both fuel atomization and securement of the net amount of fuel can be achieved.

A fuel injection valve includes a nozzle body including an injection aperture; a needle that is slidably located in the nozzle body, forms a fuel introduction path between the needle and the nozzle body, and is seated on a seat portion in the nozzle body; a swirling flow generating portion that is located more upstream than the seat portion, and imparts a swirl with respect to a sliding direction of the needle to fuel introduced from the fuel introduction path; a swirl velocity increasing portion that is located more downstream than the seat portion, and increases a swirl velocity of a swirling flow generated in the swirling flow generating portion; and an air bubble reserving portion that is located more downstream than the swirl velocity increasing portion, and reserves air bubbles generated by passage through the swirl velocity increasing portion. The injection aperture opens in the air bubble reserving portion.

An ignition device includes: an axially extending chamber with an opening portion to be open to a cylinder and a bottom surface facing the opening portion; an outer electrode provided around the opening portion; and a center electrode that forms the bottom surface. When a voltage is applied between the center electrode and the outer electrode, a plasma is produced in the chamber and a plasma jet is injected through the opening portion. The ignition device includes: a metal housing formed integrally with or separately from the outer electrode; an insulating member that supports the center electrode while insulating the center electrode from the housing and the outer electrode; and a screw thread formed on a periphery of the housing by which the ignition device is screwed into a cylinder head of the internal combustion engine. A gasket is disposed in a side closer to the inside of the cylinder. A peripheral wall of the chamber is formed by the insulating member.

A control device is applied to a multi-cylinder 4-cycle charge compression ignition-type internal combustion engine. The control device operates to open an exhaust valve in an exhaust stroke of each cylinder, operates to close an intake valve before an intake bottom dead center, and then, operates to open the exhaust valve again before the intake bottom dead center. An exhaust flow rate regulating valve is disposed in a collecting portion of an exhaust path and its opening is controlled. Hereby, a period in which the exhaust valve is open in an intake stroke of one cylinder and a period in which the exhaust valve is open in an exhaust stroke of another cylinder partially overlap each other. Combustion gas pushed out of a combustion chamber of the other cylinder in the overlapping period is pushed into a combustion chamber of the one cylinder via the exhaust path.

Control device of charge compression ignition-type internal combustion engine

An electric control deviceis applied to an internal combustion enginecapable of a pre-mixed charge compression ignition combustion in which air-fuel mixture gas including air and fuel injected from an injectoris formed in a combustion chamber, and the air-fuel mixture gas is self-ignited to be combusted by compressing the air-fuel mixture gas during a compression stroke. The electric control device injects high pressure fluid such as air from the air injection valveinto the air-fuel mixture gas at a predetermined acting timing within a compression stroke prior to fuel pyrolysis starting timing to enhance the temperature un-uniformity of the air-fuel mixture gas. This enables the temperature un-uniformity of the air-fuel mixture gas at the fuel pyrolysis starting timing to become larger than the temperature un-uniformity of the air-fuel mixture gas at the fuel pyrolysis starting timing obtained only by simply compressing the air-fuel mixture gas during the compression stroke. As a result, the combustion is moderated and the combustion noise is reduced.

Control apparatus for an internal combustion engine capable of pre-mixed charge compression ignition

The technique of the present invention produces a first fuel-air mixture containing a first fuel and the air at a specific ratio, which does not allow for auto ignition of the first fuel-air mixture by simple compression, in a combustion chamber. The technique then injects a second fuel, which has a higher octane value than that of the first fuel, into a partial area of the combustion chamber, so as to produce a second fuel-air mixture. The technique ignites the second fuel-air mixture for combustion, so as to compress and auto-ignite the first fuel-air mixture. The second fuel has the higher octane value, so that a combustion start timing of the second fuel-air mixture is reliably regulated by ignition. Namely the technique positively controls the timing of auto ignition of the first fuel-air mixture. Setting an adequate value to the ignition timing thus effectively prevents the occurrence of knocking in an internal combustion engine that adopts a premix compression ignition combustion system.

Internal combustion engine of compressing and auto-igniting air-fuel mixture and method of controlling such internal combustion engine

A control apparatus for a four-stroke premixed compression ignition internal combustion engine opens an exhaust valve to discharge burned gas from a combustion chamber at a first exhaust-valve opening timing, and reopens the exhaust valve at a second exhaust-valve opening timing that is retarded with respect to the intake-valve opening timing. Thus, burned gas discharged from the combustion chamber flows back into the combustion chamber through the exhaust port. The control apparatus retards the second exhaust-valve opening timing as the load on the engine increases. This obviates the need to decrease the lift of the exhaust valve to decrease the amount of burned gas that is reintroduced into the combustion chamber and prevents increases in the resistance against the flow of burned gas into the combustion chamber.
