A vehicle includes: an EHC which is provided in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine and of which the temperature can be raised by application of a current; a tubular first case housing the EHC; an insulation coat disposed between an inner wall of the first case and an outer circumference of the EHC so as to surround the outer circumference of the EHC; a constricted part that is provided at an end portion of the first case on a downstream side in a flow direction of an exhaust gas to reduce the inside diameter of the first case along the flow direction; and an EGR passage connected to the constricted part.

Vehicle

A catalyst device includes a catalyst, a heating element, and a case. A direction in which exhaust gas flows through an exhaust passage is defined as a gas discharging direction. The case includes an end portion on an upstream side in the gas discharging direction. The heating element includes an end on an upstream side in the gas discharging direction. The end portion of the case is an insulating portion that insulates electricity and protrudes toward an upstream side of the end of the heating element in the gas discharging direction. The catalyst device further includes an outer tube that is separated from the end portion of the case in a radial direction to cover the end portion. The outer tube is formed by a turbine housing that houses a turbine wheel of the forced-induction device.

Catalyst device

A catalyst device includes a catalyst carrier serving as a heating element that generates heat when energized. The catalyst device includes a guide pipe that guides exhaust into the case. The catalyst device includes a connecting pipe that connects the guide pipe to the case. The case has an end that is an insulative portion and projects further upstream, in the direction in which exhaust flows, from an end surface of the catalyst carrier. A temperature difference inducing structure, which induces a state in which the connecting pipe is relatively lower in temperature than the end of the case, includes a heat shield, encompassing an outer circumferential surface of the connecting pipe and having an opening in part of a portion opposing the outer circumferential surface of the connecting pipe, and a stay fixing the outer circumferential surface of the connecting pipe to an internal combustion engine.

An imbalance correction position of a turbine wheel head is irradiated with a laser beam so that an outer peripheral portion of the turbine wheel head is left, and a groove provided by the laser irradiation is provided so that a depth of the groove is shallower toward a side closer to an outer periphery of the turbine wheel head. This makes it possible to secure a strength of a base part of an outer peripheral portion (an outer wall) of the groove, thereby making it possible to restrain deformation of the outer peripheral portion of the groove due to a centrifugal force acting by rotation of the turbine wheel head.

Balance correction device for rotor

An internal combustion engine includes: a cylinder block including multiple cylinders; a cylinder head; and a turbocharger including an inlet port connected to an exhaust outlet of the cylinder head. The inlet port includes a first wall portion located between one cylinder out of the two outermost cylinders and the central axis of the inlet port in the cylinder array direction, and a second wall portion located on the opposite side of the central axis of the inlet port from the first wall portion. The first wall portion includes a thick-walled portion that is greater in thickness than the second wall portion, and a thin-walled portion that is smaller in thickness than the thick-walled portion and is located upstream of the thick-walled portion in the direction of exhaust gas flow.

Internal combustion engine

A second recirculation passage recirculates blow-by gas at an upstream section, which is upstream of an impeller of a turbocharger in an intake passage. A first passage branches and extends from a downstream section, which is downstream of the impeller in the intake passage. A second passage that forms part of the second recirculation passage connects the first passage and the upstream section to each other. A third passage, which is provided separately from the second passage, connects the first passage and the upstream section to each other. A change mechanism changes, in different manners, the flow rate of compressed gas recirculating to the upstream section through the second passage, and the flow rate of compressed gas recirculating to the upstream section through the third passage.

A turbine housing of a turbocharger is formed by joining a scroll body with a base body. An exhaust passageway is formed between the scroll body and the base body. At the joint portion between the scroll body and the base body, an inside corner portion is formed by an inner peripheral surface of the scroll body that faces the exhaust passageway, and an outer peripheral surface of the base body that also faces the exhaust passageway. An inside fillet that is shaped to change the direction of exhaust gas along the inner peripheral surface of the scroll body to a direction along the outer peripheral surface of the base body is formed on the inside corner portion.

A turbocharger includes: a turbine wheel that is driven by exhaust gas from an engine and supported rotatably by a predetermined rotary shaft; and a turbine housing that forms an exhaust gas passage that leads the exhaust gas to the turbine wheel, wherein the turbine housing includes a housing main body constituted by a plate-form member and a reinforcement member that forms the exhaust gas passage together with the housing main body and reinforces the housing main body, the reinforcement member includes a pair of annular portions having a substantially annular shape and provided about an axial center of the rotary shaft at an interval in an axial direction of the rotary shaft, and a connecting portion that connects the pair of annular portions, and the pair of annular portions and the connecting portion are molded integrally by implementing deformation processing on the plate-form member.

Turbocharger and turbocharger wheel housing

Disclosed is an exhaust air purification device, which enables heating a carrier uniformly and heating a catalyst supported on the carrier above an active temperature thereof even when an engine is run on a cold-start mode. Specifically disclosed is an exhaust air purification device, which includes a hollow case as an exterior, a cylindrical carrier housed in the case and having a catalyst supported thereon, and a pair of electrodes arranged on the outer circumferential surface of the carrier. In the device, the carrier is electrically heated through the pair of electrodes so that the catalyst is heated to an active temperature thereof. In the device, each of the pair of electrodes is placed on an arc-shaped outer circumferential segment of the carrier that has a central angle of 20 to 40 degrees, and the electrodes are opposed to each other with the phase difference of 180 degrees.

Exhaust air purification device

An electrically-heated catalytic converter comprises a catalyst support which produces heat when electric current is applied, a holding mat made of an electrical insulating material, the holding mat being provided so as to cover an outer circumference of the catalyst support, and a case which houses the catalyst support and holds the catalyst support via the holding mat. The catalytic converter treats gas flowing in the case by a catalyst supported on the catalyst support. The holding mat has a water-absorbing property. An insulation layer made of an electrical insulating material is provided between the case and the holding mat.

Electrically-heated catalytic converter

An electrically-heated catalyst is disclosed. The catalyst may include a carrier; more than two comb-shaped electrode portions extending in a longitudinal direction; an electrically conductive underlying layer provided between the carrier and the comb-shaped electrode portions; and more than two electrically conductive fixing layers bonding to at least one of the comb-shaped electrode portions and to the underlying layer to fix the comb-shaped electrode portions to the carrier at more than two points spaced apart.

A turbocharger with a rotating electric machine includes a turbine rotor which constitutes a portion of a rotating member of the turbocharger; a compressor impeller which constitutes a portion of the rotating member of the turbocharger; a rotating electric machine which includes a stator and a rotor that constitutes a portion of the rotating member of the turbocharger; a shaft which supports the turbine rotor at one end and the compressor impeller at the other end, and which supports the rotor of the rotating electric machine at an intermediate portion; bearings each of which has an inner race and an outer race, and one of which supports the shaft at a portion between the one end and the intermediate portion, and the other of which supports the shaft at a portion between the other end and the intermediate portion; and a cylindrical member which encases the rotor of the rotating electric machine at a center portion and which contacts the inner race of one of the two bearings at one end portion and the inner race of the other of the two bearings at the other end portion.

The valve driving apparatus of an internal combustion engine includes a valve element functioning as an intake valve or an exhaust valve of the internal combustion engine, an electromagnetic actuator for driving the valve element, an actuator body having a plurality of electromagnetic actuators mounted thereto, and wiring for supplying electric power to each of the electromagnetic actuators. The actuator body has a flow path for allowing a cooling medium to flow therethrough. The wiring is provided near the flow path of the actuator body. This structure enables a reduction in space for power distribution while minimizing overheating of the wires.
