An automobile weatherstripping includes an extrusion-formed part and a mold-formed part, the mold-formed part being welded and integrated with the extrusion-formed part. The extrusion-formed part is made of an olefin elastomer and the mold-formed part is made of a resin composition containing an olefin resin, ethylene-&agr;-olefin copolymer rubber, hydrogenated aromatic vinyl conjugated diene compounds block copolymer mineral oil and at least one of natural rubber and butadiene rubber in predetermined proportions. The extrusion-formed part and the mold-formed part have a sufficient level of bonding strength with no bonding agent layer being used therebetween.

A thermoplastic elastomer composition for calender-molding obtained by dynamically heat-treating a mixture comprising 40 to 95% by weight of (A) an oil-extended olefin copolymer rubber containing 100 parts by weight of an olefin copolymer rubber having a Mooney viscosity (ML 100&deg; C.) of 120 to 350 and 20 to 150 parts by weight of mineral oil softening agent and 60 to 5% by weight of (B) a polypropylene resin, a process for producing a calendered sheet from the composition and a sheet obtained by the process.

Thermoplastic elastomer composition for calender-molding and sheets prepared therefrom

Disclosed is a casing for storing an airbag for an airbag restraint system, cavingg: a main body formed of a material comprising a thermoplastic elastomer composition which is prepared by: mixing 100 parts by weight of a copolymer composition with 0.05 to 0.5 parts by weight of a lubricant comprising higher fatty acid amide to obtain a mixture; and dynamically heat-treating the mixture in the presence of an organic peroxide and an auxiliary crosslinking agent. The copolymer composition contains: (A) 20 to 50 parts by weight of an olefin copolymer resin of propylene and one or two kinds of 1-olefin other than propylene; (B) 10 to 50 parts by weight of ethylene-propylene copolymer rubber having a Mooney viscosity (ML,, 100&deg; C.) ranging from 30 to 60; (C) 10 to 70 parts by weight of ethylene-propylene-nonconjugated diene copolymer rubber having a Mooney viscosity (ML,, 100&deg; C.) ranging from 50 to 100; and (D) 10 to 50 parts by weight of an oil-extended ethylene-propylene-nonconjugated diene copolymer rubber containing ethylene-propylene-nonconjugated diene copolymer having a Mooney viscosity (ML,, 100&deg; C.) ranging from 150 to 350 and a mineral oil softener contained at an amount of 50 to 150 parts by weight relative to 100 parts by weight of the ethylene-propylene-nonconjugated diene copolymer.

A laminated skin material comprising an olefin thermoplastic elastomer composition layer and an olefin resin foam layer which does not cause undesirable break, unevenness and wrinkle of the skin material when a laminated molded article is produced by disposing the laminated skin material between male and female molds, feeding a molten thermoplastic resin between the laminated skin material and the male or female molds, and integrally laminating the skin material and thermoplastic resin; a molding method using the laminated skin material, a molding method in which a laminated skin material used in the method is preheated which give a laminated molded article having good appearance and the laminated molded article.

An air bag cover for a passenger of an automobile, obtained by molding a thermoplastic elastomer composition which comprises an olefin-based resin (A) and an ethylene-.alpha.-olefin-based copolymer rubber (B), and provides a 2 mm thick molded body composed of the composition having a linear thermal expansion coefficient at a temperature of -40 to 120.degree. C. of 13.5.times.10.sup.-5 mm/m.degree.C. or less, a fracture elongation at weld part of 50% or more, and an Izod impact strength at a temperature of -50.degree. C. or more of 35 kg.multidot.cm/cm or more, or revealing Non Break. According to the present invention, there can be provided an air bag cover for a passenger side seat of an automobile, which does not cause building up or separation from surrounding parts when installed and set into a dash board of the automobile, and has excellent safety in spreading.

A sheet including an olefin thermoplastic elastomer obtainable by dynamically heat-treating 100 parts by weight of a mixture of 40-90% by weight of (A) an olefin polymer rubber having a Mooney viscosity at 100.degree. C. (ML.sub.1+4 100.degree. C.) of 5-100 and substantially free from unconjugated diene and 60-10% by weight of (B) an olefin polymer in the presence of 0.005-0.5 part by weight of an organic peroxide and 0.05-4 parts by weight of N,N'-m-phenylenebismaleimide or divinylbenzene. Said sheet is excellent in light resistance and thermal aging resistance. A laminate including said sheet and a use thereof are also provided.

Olefine thermoplastic elastomer sheet

A process for producing a thermoplastic elastomer composition which comprises dynamically cross-linking an olefine copolymer rubber and an olefine plastic using a twin-screw extruder, said process being characterized in that said twin-screw extruder comprises one or more kneading zones within a dynamically cross-linking area and the first kneading zone among said zones comprises a screw with forward kneading disks having a minimum thickness (T.sub.min) of less than 13 mm per disk. Said method enables production of a thermoplastic elastomer composition of good quality regardless of the scale of production.

Process for producing thermoplastic elastomer composition

A casing for storing an airbag of an airbag restraint system for an automobile vehicle. The casing is formed of a material comprising (a) a thermoplastic elastomer composition in an amount of 100 parts by weight, the thermoplastic elastomer composition being prepared by a process including mixing 10 to 50 parts by weight of a polyolefine resin with 100 parts by weight of an olefine copolymer rubber to obtain a mixture, dynamically heat-treating the mixture in the presence of an organic peroxide, and then adding 5 to 50 parts by weight of a mineral oil relative to 100 parts by weight of the dynamically heat-treated mixture, the olefine copolymer rubber having a Mooney viscosity (ML.sub.1+4, 100.degree. C.) ranging from 50 to 100; (b) a random copolymer resin in an amount of 20 to 50 parts by weight, containing propylene and at least one kind of 1-olefine other than propylene and having a Melt Flow Rate (230.degree. C.) ranging from 30 to 100; and (c) a modified polypropylene oligomer containing hydroxyl group, in an amount ranging from 1 to 5 parts by weight.

A casing for storing an airbag forming part of an airbag restraint system in an automotive vehicle. The airbag storing casing comprises a main body formed of a material including (a) a thermoplastic elastomer composition in an amount of 100 parts by weight, the thermoplastic elastomer composition being prepared by a process including mixing 10 to 50 parts by weight of a polyolefin resin with 100 parts by weight of an olefin copolymer rubber to obtain a mixture, dynamically heat-treating the mixture in the presence of an organic peroxide, and then adding 5 to 50 parts by weight of a mineral oil relative to 100 parts by weight of the dynamically heat-treated mixture, the olefin copolymer rubber having a Mooney viscosity (ML.sub.1+4, 100.degree. C.) ranging from 50 to 100, and (b) a random copolymer resin in an amount of 20 to 50 parts by weight, containing propylene and at least one kind of 1-olefin other than propylene and having a Melt Flow Rate (230.degree. C.) ranging from 30 to 100. Additionally, a paint is coated on the surface of the main body and includes a resin component including chlorinated polyolefin resin, a modifier including alcohol-modified silicone and polyhydric alcohol, and a hardener including a mixture of an addition product of hexamethylene diisocyanate and polyester polyol, and hexamethylene diisocyanate.

An olefinic resin composition which comprises 100 parts by weight of a thermoplastic olefin elastomer consisting of a polyolefin resin and an olefinic copolymer rubber and 0.5 to 30 parts by weight of a modified polyolefin obtained by reacting an unsaturated carboxylic acid (anhydride)-modified polyolefin with an aminoalcohol represented by the formula H.sub.2 N--R--OH in which R is an alkylene, arylene or aralkylene group having 18 or less carbon atoms. The olefinic resin composition can give a molded article which can be satisfactorily coated with a coating material without a primer and has excellent heat fusibility to various resin and metals.

A thermoplastic elastomer powder for powder molding, comprising an elastomer composition of an ethylene-.alpha.-olefin copolymer rubber and a polyolefin resin, wherein said elastomer composition has a complex dynamic viscosity .eta.*(1) as measured at frequency of 1 radian/sec. in dynamic viscoelasticity measurement at 250.degree. A blend which comprises a partially crosslinked product of a mixture of an oil-extended olefinic copolymer rubber comprising an olefinic copolymer rubber having a 100.degree. C. Mooney viscosity 150-350, a polyolefin resin, a selectively hydrogenated block copolymer, and a specific mineral oil type softening agent has excellent flexibility of less than 45 in Shore A hardness. The blend is not tacky, nor does the softening agent bleed. An anti-static agent for polyolefins and/or a higher fatty acid amide may be included in the composition.

An olefinic thermoplastic elastomer composition which is excellent in mechanical properties and is substitutable for vulcanized rubbers is provided, which comprises a mixture comprising (A) 40-95% by weight of an oil-extended olefinic copolymer rubber comprising 100 parts by weight of an olefinic copolymer rubber having a Mooney viscosity (ML.sub.1+4 100.degree. C.) of 150-350 and 20-150 parts byw eight of a mineral oil and (B) 5-60% by weight of an olefinic plastic, said mixture being partially crosslinked by dynamic heat treatment in the presence of an organic peroxide. This composition gives superior molded articles free from bleeding of oil on the surface.
