A glass cutter is provided which can form, using a wheel, a uniform crack in glass even when a projection or an earlier-formed scribe line is present on the glass. When the wheel is moved on the glass, a fracture layer is formed causing a rib mark to be formed below the fracture layer and a crack to be formed below the rib mark. To cut the glass, the crack is required to be formed uniformly. Applying a force to resist the rotating force of the wheel makes it possible to form a uniform crack even when a projection is present on the glass. This improves glass cutting yield.

In order to prevent irreversible deformation of column-shaped spacers which retain the gap between a pair of substrates between which the liquid crystal layer of a liquid crystal display device is interposed, spacers which assist in preventing such irreversible deformation are newly provided. According to the invention, two or more kinds of spacers which differ in height from a reference surface are disposed on one of the pair of substrates. In addition, a step pattern with which the spacers are to come into contact is formed in advance on the other of the pair of substrates so that the heights of the spacers can be made different.

In a liquid crystal display device includes a pair of substrates between which a liquid crystal layer filled, a plurality of pixel regions each of which includes a pixel electrode and an active element connected to the pixel electrode on a main surface of one of the pair of substrates, the present invention provides a first electrode layer electrically connected to the active element, a color filter layer formed over the first electrode layer and having an opening portion, and a second electrode layer covering the color filter layer, and utilizes the second electrode layer as the pixel electrode by connecting the second electrode layer to the first electrode layer electrically through the opening portion of the color filter layer. Since the liquid crystal display device according to the present invention allows light incident on the liquid crystal layer partially to pass through the opening portion of the color filter layer in each of the pixel regions, the luminance of the displayed image is increased without deteriorating the contrast.

In a liquid crystal display device comprising color filters therein, the present invention provides a color-converting material in at least one of the color filters which converts a part of an incident light of the at least one of the color filters into a light in a specific wavalength range together with a filter material passing the light in the specific wavelength range, so as to prevent deterioration of color purity of the light emitted thereby and to improve efficiency of optical utilization therein.

In a liquid crystal display device comprising a first substrate having switching elements formed for respective pixel electrodes thereon and a second substrate having color filters and a common electrode formed on a main surface thereof, the present invention provides a plurality of columnar spacers formed on both areas of the second substrate inside and outside the common electrode, covers a group of the columnar spacers formed on the common electrode with an alignment film, and arranges another group of the columnar spacers formed around the common electrode at both sides of a sealing material sticking the first substrate and the second substrate to one another. According to the present invention, the group of the columnar spacers fixed to the second substrate with the alignment film firmly secures a gap between the first and second substrates in cooperation with the another group of the columnar spacers arranged so as to compensate for deformation of the sealing material.

Disclosed are a liquid crystal display device capable of obtaining preferable display images, whose manufacturing cost is low, and which does not deteriorate the environment at the time of fabrication and a method for fabricating the same. According to the invention, there is provided a liquid crystal display device comprising: a first substrate on which a black matrix, a color filter, and a counter electrode are formed; a second substrate on which a plurality of gate signal lines and a plurality of source signal lines which are disposed so as to cross each other via a gate insulating film, thin film transistors disposed in intersecting points of the gate signal lines and the source signal lines, and pixel electrodes in a matrix disposed in the areas surrounded by the gate signal lines and the source signal lines are formed; and a liquid crystal layer provided between the first substrate and the second substrate, wherein the black matrix is formed by a black resin optical shielding layer and a blue filter layer. In a method for fabricating the liquid crystal display device according to the invention, the black matrix part formed by the blue filter layer is constructed by a photoresist film in which a blue pigment is dispersed and the photoresist film is patterned by using back side exposure.

According to one embodiment of the present invention, a magnetic bubble memory module comprising a flexible printed circuits substrate (FPC3), on which a magnetic bubble memory chip (CHI) is mounted and electrically connected, with interconnecting patterns (9a) electrically connecting the chip (CHI) with external connecting leads, terminals or pins as well as bias coil winding (BIC2) for applying bias field to the chip (CHI), thereby reducing the number of components as well as fabricating steps because of the formation of the bias coil (BIC2) with the printed circuits substrate (FPC3).

A magnetic bubble memory module having a rectangular core shaped like a picture frame providing windings on respective two pairs of opposite sides, at least one magnetic bubble memory chip disposed in an area surrounded by the core, a flexible substrate having a chip-loading section for loading the magnetic bubble memory chip thereon and having four corners for leading out lead wires connecting signal lines and driving lines of the chip. A revolving magnetic field-confining case accommodates the core, the chip and the flexible substrate and enables the lead wires of the flexible substrate at the corners of the chip-loading section to be drawn out therethrough.
