A recording medium cutter capable of moving between two positions, a cutting position and a non-cutting position, in a short time, and also capable of cutting a recording medium at accurate positions. A main body ( ) rotatably holding a rotary blade ( ) and a driven blade ( ) is located between side plates ( and ) of the cutter ( ). A main shaft ( ) serving as the center shaft of the rotary blade ( ) is rotatably secured to the side plates ( and ). The main shaft ( ) also serves as the rotating shaft of the main body ( ). A driving motor is secured to the mounting plate ( ) of the side plate ( ). When the main shaft ( ) is rotated by the driving motor ( ), the rotary blade ( ) rotates. Because the driven blade ( ) is pressed against the side face of the rotary blade ( ), as the rotary blade ( ) rotates, the driven blade ( ) revolves around the main shaft ( ). As a result, the main body ( ) also rotates around the main shaft ( ). When the main body ( ) is moved from the non-cutting position to the cutting position, the rotation of the main body ( ) is stopped the moment that a stopper ( ) of the main body ( ) comes into contact with a stopping plate ( ), whereas the rotary blade ( ) continues to rotate. When the main body ( ) is moved from the cutting position to the non-cutting position, the rotation of the main body ( ) is stopped the moment that a lever ( ), engaged with the main body during rotation, comes into contact with a hole's extreme end ( ) of the side plate ( ). At this time, a sensor bar ( ) of the lever ( ) turns a sensor ( ) off, causing the driving motor ( ) to be turned off.

An extension guide unit,is provided on a side portion of a recording medium conveying passage. An extension guide,is held in a wound state in an extension guide holder,of the extension guide unit,In order to convey a recording medium, the extension guide,is drawn out, by which the recording medium is guided. This enables the recording medium to be smoothly conveyed.
