When starting pre-air conditioning according to the remote control signal, the control apparatus sets the control mode of the vehicle to a drive-disabling mode, which is a control mode that disables an operation for driving the vehicle. If a specific mode-cancelling operation is detected in a situation in which the remote controller is present in the interior of the vehicle while the control mode of the vehicle is being set to the drive-disabling mode, the control apparatus cancels the drive-disabling mode while leaving the internal combustion engine operating.

An air-fuel ratio of each cylinder is estimated on the basis of a detection value of an air-fuel ratio sensor disposed in an exhaust confluent portion. An air-fuel ratio correction quantity is computed on the basis of the estimated air-fuel ratio of each cylinder. The air-fuel ratio of an air-fuel mixture to be supplied to each cylinder is corrected on the basis of the cylinder air-fuel ratio correction quantity to reduce a variation in the air-fuel ratio between the cylinders. When a state in which the cylinder air-fuel ratio correction quantity or its learning value of any cylinder is outside a specified range continues for a while during a period in which this cylinder air-fuel ratio control is performed, a combustion is stopped for the cylinder outside the specified range and the cylinder air-fuel ratio control is continuously performed only for other normal cylinders.

The air-fuel ratio is corrected on the basis of the cylinder air-fuel ratio correction quantity, whereby the air-fuel ratio is controlled for each cylinder so as to reduce a variation in the air-fuel ratio between the cylinders. When a state in which the correction quantity of any cylinder is outside a specified range continues for a while during a period in which the air-fuel ratio is controlled for each cylinder, the correction quantity is prohibited from being learned, whereby the cylinder air-fuel ratio correction quantity is prevented from being erroneously learned.
